Tonight's reading in Joshua contained two significant stories. First was the very popular story of the Battle of Jericho. One thing that I found interesting in this story is that the Jews did not observe a Sabbath day in this story. Perhaps the incursion into the city occured on the Sabbath but the point is not specific. Notice that in this battle, the Ark of the Covenant holds a central place showing the presence of God in these battles. Joshua's curse in verse 6:26 will be fulfilled in 1 Kings 16:34.
The second story was of the stoning of Achan. This story illustrates the consequences of not obeying God. The reader may be a little shocked that even after Achan's confession, he is still stoned to death, along with his household and livestock but keep in mind, this was war!

In Mark tonight, I will point out again how little dialogue is cited. Christ shows His mastery over the demons in the possessed man with six words, "Be quiet. Come out of him." Mark speaks often of the amzement of the people who witness Christ's miracles.

In 1Corinthians Paul addresses the fact that each of us who have received the Holy Spirit hold a bit of the knowledge of Christ! We speak not of manly wisdom, but of the Wisdom that is imparted to us by Christ through the Spirit. This is a very empowering passage.
