LOL, hey, include us full size men. I would join! Of course, since it's a Church function someone will want to bring food to all the meetings. Will it be sinful deserts or the vegie plate that no one will eat?

Well...if we're gonna stay 'Fat and Happy in Jesus', I suppose it'll be the deserts, which would not be sinful, but sanctified, for it would most definitely be received with thanksgiving.

and her real name is Sally Struthers, not Gloria Struthers

I don't mind laughing at my weight, if you don't your too depressed to laugh at anything. but I don't want others laughing at it. thats a put down and is very offensive.

Donna, I can agree somewhat about others laughing at my weight. Depends on who it is and what their humor in it is...family, close friends, have laughed with me for years...their alright in my book... some snotty teenager in WalMart being rude, well, she'd better be careful, I do believe someone has already spoken in this thread about those fleeting years of youth... her laughter may one day turn to sorrow!

    Listen to Dorothy.
Archie. Best of breed, ran his own house, married well, having an understanding wife, and they did what God told them to do. They procreated. Show me any high IQ sophisticate gays that can do that, and I might listen to them, or the "meat heads" as they spout their worldly wisdom.

He had convictions, and others mentioned here had platitudes. He does it because of the "right", and doesn't care what the politically, or socially correct, or the rest of the world thinks of him. Dumb in the over educated eyes yes, but not stupid. He is white, and he thinks it should stay that way (I know some blacks that want to keep it that way). He is not confused about his sex, or with whom he is to have sex with. Stupid? I think not,

He of his prejudice in his small world, and we of our insight into his world of right and wrong, see only his wrong. We must be right in our prejudice for all we can see is his wrong. We are no different for we do the same as he, as we judge him.

Take Archie away and there is no show. We the sophisticated, educated believe we are the show. The lowly Jesus, and his poor ignorant disciples should give us pause as they stood and were killed for right, and not for educational superiority, or worldly knowledge. These of "high" stature are the ones responsible for our Lord's death. They are of this world.

Just curious. Why does Archie not have the right to judge others? Everybody judges him.

Neither. They were both equally depraved sinners. For me, however, Michael was much more irritating because he was such a self righteous liberal on his high horse all the time.

Ok, time to straighten all yall out. Lemme warm up my slappin' paws here... :applause:

Fat jokes: They are inappropriate, unless one is speaking of him/her self.

Contributing to the bad taste as far as the subject matter was the fact that the person you ridiculed was not able to answer back. Further, I doubt you would have said it to her.

I don't care if you have so little self-respect that you ridicule yourself, but keep it to yourself or among those you know think its funny.

    NEXT!

There were two choices of who to pick. I had a reason for that. It's fun to discuss the show and other characters and I'm fine with that, but pretty please do at least throw in a line concerning the differences between the two characters I chose.

    NEXT!

Ituttut: Perhaps you were confused about which show this was? Michael wasn't gay, and he and Gloria had just as many children as Archie and Edith.
As far as judging goes, Archie was judging them based on the color of their skin. No, we don't have that right.
On the other hand, Michael tended to judge people who didn't hold the same beliefs he did. For you and I as Christians, that is sometimes seen as a great thing, something we're supposed to do. However, Michael was an agnostic, so is it ok for an agnostic to judge people as bad who hold different beliefs, and if not, why should Christians be able to judge people as bad who hold different beliefs?

    NEXT!

Joseph: I'm surprised you watch/watched the show. Especially if you found both of those people irritating. I'm also suprised that self-righteous and liberal beat out being highly prejudiced. Just commenting, I have no argument with what you said. Well I do, but not enough of one to bother typing it.

Re: fat, I'll repeat what I posted some months earlier -- a refrigerator magnet I saw with a big female sheep cartooned on it and the words "Ewe is not fat, ewe is fluffy."

Re: Archie, don't know if I could say one person was better than another. As Joseph pointed out, each was a depraved sinner expressing his sin somewhat freely according to his particular preference.

But I prefer Archie. I think his style is less harmful to society.

Hi Gina L. Not to argue but notice the inclusion in my post of "Show me any high IQ sophisticate gays that can do that, and I might listen to them, or the 'meat heads' as they spout their worldly wisdom". If I'm not mistaken Michael and Gloria could see nothing wrong with homosexuality, so they are of the same crowd. They would vote for "gay marriage", which is not what God commanded all men and women to do.

I believe we have the right to choose of our own color in marriage and association. In other areas I choose to allow what the situation calls for. As to the saved having the right to judge, so do the unsaved have the right. Christian or no, I believe everyone has a right to believe what they wish, therefore they have the right of their convections. As a Christian I condemn that which is not acceptable to Christ Jesus, and the unsaved condemn me for my intolerance to their way of thinking.

It's been ages since I've seen the show but didn't George Jefferson straighten Archie out on some things having to do with race?

    Two blogs in 1

Fat jokes are inappropriate and I do not like them even when family and friends do them, I can take a joke, I laugh at myself all the time

    Q. What do you call two large men having a chat?
    A. A heavy discussion.

Sorry, had to play the devils advocate. This should get a response :tear:

What was this thread? Which one was better person?

Archie, the conservative racist who slammed everyone different but believed in God, or Michael, the liberal who cared for all people regardless of race, but was an agnostic?

Hard to say since both did not know the truth 'Love All as God Loves All"

I will say Archie, he was wrong on somethings but did believe in God, that is what the writes did anyways :tongue3:

    Just my thoughts :flower:

Well some people liked the little joke, some got all bent out of shape. People, it was nothing. Get over it!

In any case, an interesting aside, Norman Lear, producer of AITF, founded the secular advocacy group, "People for the American Way".
