Sorry Timothy, but all we have is your "interpretation" of the answer.

When things are seemingly contradictory (but we know they are not really), we each need to let the Holy Spirit lead us into HIS interpretation. Not one that fits what we want it to, according to our personal convictions...

Too many people are trying to push their 'preferences' off on other people as 'convictions'. Maybe we need to study the difference?

It is not up to man to decide what my convictions should be, (even if they are different from yours), it is up to God and I believe I can hear God just like everyone else.

I am not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine. Instead of beating this dead horse forever, maybe we should be out showing people the way to find the 'real' Truth, Jesus Christ...

    JMHO,
    Sue

Oops, I really got behind reading this thread.

Jeans opening in front. Don't you think this was an economical thing for the manufacturors?

I remember when there was a distinct difference in girl's jeans and boy's jeans, but it seems to me that if I were tooling up for sewing, patterns, etc., it would make sense to make them all similar. Albeit, the cut for most women has to be fuller than for males.

Actually, my jeans are pull on without an opening in front.

I will pass on something I saw on my way around town today doing errands, going to dentist, etc.

There is a group of people living in motor homes assisting in the building of an addition to a local church. (Not Baptist).

Today, is very warm here in Oklahoma. I saw a godly woman in jeans. How do I know that she was godly? I can't imagine any other kind of woman in her senior years working in the hot Oklahoma sun to build a church. These are retired people and men and women are working side by side building and the women are wearing jeans and they have short hair and it is uncovered and yes, I think they look very "Godly". [IMG] This is volunteer work so they are being paid equally. :D

Timothy (if I have the wrong person I'm sorry)
&gt;&gt;22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

    [she makes fine, expensive clothing - why? obviously not to wear herself, for that is clearly prohibited elsewhere&lt;&lt;

Did you miss the 3rd and 7th words in that verse? HERSELF and HER.

King Lemuel was describing his mother here. Of course she wore these things.

However, 1 Timothy 2 is in the NEW TESTAMENT and is a DIRECT COMMAND TO WOMEN.

So, it was her actions that made her appear godly, right? I agree with that.

I agree that our actions are the top priority. I know that a woman can wear a long loose flowing dress and a headcovering and be wicked in her heart. I readily admit that.

However, when our hearts are right on the inside the outside follows along.

Would you agree though that the ads for jeans are not targeted to godly Christian women?

What ads? You keep mentioning these ads. Are they on television?

</font>[/QUOTE]I have looked again at Proverbs 31 and I can not find where it says specifically that he is talking about HIS mother. It does say it is an oracle/prophesy that she *taught* him.

    1 Timothy 2
9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

Expensive clothes to me is very subjective as to the meaning. What may be expensive to one family may not be to another. What defines expensive?

Not having read all pages, I want to comment on this quote. It is actually the man that needs to dress biblically first. In the Bible men wear robes over their garments. My pastor always says, we need to quit picking on the women and have the men to get right with God. When we get to heaven what are men going to wear? White robes!

Now I do believe in dress only and I believe that cullottes (sp) are nothing more than glorified pants. Most that wear cullottes is so that they can do things that aren't so femine. Notice how a girl or lady sits when she is wearing them. What does she do when she is wearing them? If there is a chance that what a person is doing may expose themselves then put on bloomers or don't do it!

Well I looked at that link and didn't see anything but some women in jeans and hands in their pockets. Sorry... nothing vulgar there to me!

    Walls,
When I switched to dresses only I realized that I never learned to sit like lady. In pants I sat in very immodest ways because I thought my body was covered. In dresses you cannot sit the same ways you can sit in pants.

This does not sound like an advertisement for a godly woman: "Long and Lean,a sweet silohette that hugs all of your curves."

Or:"Sweet and low, jeans that sit below your natural waist line."

    From the Nordstrom ad.

I will repeat I was about to link one more but it was so lewd I felt it was unbecoming of a Christian women to lead anyone to that site.

I liked the jeans that the girl is wearing on the sailboat. The cropped jeans named "boyfriend" are really cute. I'm like Diane, I don't see anything wrong with the ads other than the prices.

I don't wear jeans very often so I buy mine at Walmart or Sears.

What does the Word of God say?

Psalm 101:3, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes. I HATE THE WORK OF THEM THAT TURN ASIDE, It shall not cleave to me."

    Thankful,
I guess that is another area that you and I are different in. I see something wrong with the poses and the way they explain how the jeans look. I know they are not targeted to godly Christian women. And if they are, why would you want to wear jeans that hig your every curve?

    no.

herself - emphasizing that she makes the coverings (which may not even be clothing here), not a servant or someone else. since this is poem praising her abilities and industry, this fits very well. or it could just mean the covernings she makes.

her - the clothing she makes.

if i owned a woman's lingerie shop, it would all be my clothing - but that doesn't necessarily mean i would wear it!

I didn't read the descriptions but I saw nothing vulgar or evil in those pictures. Now those underwear ads that come in with the fliers in the mail are vulgar!
