I am completely baffled by the number of stories in the local newspapers depicting the plight of the poor illegal immigrant who, when interviewed states [almost every time] that they've lived here for years [having to look over their shoulders at every turn of the day], given birth to "X" number of children, and feel like they've paid their dues to society and believe they are as American as Americans themselves.

I, for one, do not see it that way. Sorry, but just because someone lives next door to a McDonald's for twenty years, they do not have the right to call themselves a Big Mac or a Mc Rib.

No matter how long an illegal has lived here in the states [without getting caught]; and no matter how many children they gave birth to; they STILL broke the law when they crossed the border, and like any other, uncaught fugitive, they owe a debt to this society [and EVERY other legal immigrant that followed the long path to citizenship]. And in my way of seeing things, they must pay the price for breaking the laws of this nation. And if that means deportation, so be it!

If I broke a law. I successfully hid from the police for years. And was finally apprehended. I'd deserve the book being thrown at me when I came before th judge. I surely would expect leniency because I had ten children and lived a nice life for twenty-five years.

No law breaker should ever be granted blanket amnesty/forgivness for the laws they broke. In my book, they should not be granted citizenship. In fact, they should go to the back of the line, and be made to start over.

Cheaters should not be rewarded for their actions!

Amnesty is rewarding a cheater/law breaker with the most coveted prize an immigrant could hope to claim when they move to this country to live. CITIZENSHIP.

It is not the job or right of any elected official to randomly wave their arms and snap their fingers to make a law breaking illegal immigrant a citizen of this country. To do so is making citizenship CHEAP, and encouraging others to do the same in the future. No matter how bad it is in that persons native country; breaking our immigration laws is not a good reason for coming here illegally!! Ignorance of the law should not be rewarded with amnesty!

On top of this, illegals granted amnesty have no reason to learn English; American history; and, or, assimilate. Why should they? After all, they skirted the other requirements legal immigration requires for naturalization? There is nothing left to make them adhere to the rules of becoming a citizen of this country in the true intent of the very letter of the law.

There is an old adage, or saying: Do the crime, do the time?! This must be applied to those who illegally came to America. It is the only way to stop and discourage future illegal aliens from coming across our borders. If amnesty is the eventual prize for breaking the laws of crossing our borders, there is nothing left to stop people from entering this nation on their personal whims!

At least, this is my personal opinion on the subject! Sure it is harsh. Nevertheless, real life is often harsh. We'll never learn if reality is not harsh! The "Entitled mentality" is not going to learn the lessons of life if everything is handed to them on a silver platter!

    Something Else...

Deport the entire family, and end anchor babiy laws while we're at it...

Amnesty will over tax our health care system; schools; welfare; social security; and every other social assistance program. We are already in the red, we don't need to give away the farm to make cheaters happy!

The Bible tells us to be good stewards with what we have. Amnesty is not practicing good stewardship.

I spent 8 years in Germany while in the US Army.

I guess that makes me a German Citizen?

No. To declare that they are is an insult to all of us who followed the rules.

They are criminals and should be treated as such. Arrest them, charge them, send them home with a bill for what they cost us.

It won't happen, but it's what should happen.

    If WE...

...could actually collect on that "bill" them suggestion, we might be able to pay off the national debt. But, like you said, "It won't happen!"

Arbo and Mont974x4 took the words right out of my mouth.

Come to my front door and knock. According to the standards of my home, I may or may not allow you to enter. If permitted to enter, I will extend a hand of friendship and welcome. I'd be honored to share a cup of coffee with you.

Make uninvited entry through my back door and I'll do everything within my power to see that you go right back out. Unless you've entered to tell me my house is on fire, it doesn't matter what standards you'd meet if you'd come to my front door.

Here's a possible solution. If I understand correctly, the majority of the illegals coming into this country come from Mexico and/or pass through Mexico. Use the immigration laws of Mexico as the basis upon which to model our own.

The fact is that many illegals are fully Americans...

...Central Americans...South Americans, ...Americans none the less.

but I guess that's not the point here.

Here is an idea to get rid of the twelve million immigrants. In southern Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, turn around all highway and direction signs and make south north and north south. Then install signs in English and Spanish saying free Social Security, health insurance, welfare and food stamps this way and point the signs south. Once they are over the border, set up troops all along the border to prevent reentry once they figure out they were duped. We could pay the Mexican government to put up signs on their buidlings in Tiajuana, Juarez, and Nogalez saying Social Security to delay the reentry.

It kind of reminds me of the Pied Piper.

You bring up an excellent point. How American were we when we took the land from the Indians?

This is a complete non-starter. It's only usefulness is to stir up emotions.
There is not a person alive today that can be charged with that.

It's as ridiculous as those who want whites to pay restitution to blacks over slavery.

Just to clarify, we need (to satisified Deacon) to use the Term USA (United States of America), in fact the term U.S. is insufficent as Deacon may be refering to the United States of Indonesia

PS, Deacon, just so we are clear; are you an active Ordained Deacon?

You are totally 100% full of a substance that cannot be mentioned on this board. That was not the purpose of the quote, to stir emotion. It might have been a question to ponder. It had no connection with charging anyone alive today with anything. If you want an example of something that stirs no emotion, try listening to one of your sermons.

I do not believe I need the word Christ emphasized in my understanding of the holiday. Do not lob out an off the wall insult then act like the wounded martyr when one is given back. The subject of the thread is who can be called Americans, not past social injustices.

You are quick with your judgments today...and you've been wrong with both so far. I always write it that way. It was in no way an insult.

You should also remember that you are the one who brought in the subject of past injustices into the thread.

It is obvious that you are having a rough time this morning. So, instead of responding to your absurd insult I extended an acceptable holiday blessing.

I am having a fine morning, and you are the one that called both points wrong. Maybe a stool softener would help.
