I wonder how many here on the board believe that there are demons on earth today?

And can they be in people like the man that Jesus encountered that had a Legion. Jesus sent those devils into the pigs and the pigs ran over a cliff and killed themselves.

Could that sort of thing still happen today? Are there people today who are demon posessed?

    Tam,

I John 3:8 says, 'The person who practices sinning is of the Devil.' There is the family of God-those who have received and love Jesus and there is the other family that we and every other sinner was in at one time.

Ephesians 2:2 says, 'Wherein in time past we walked according to the course of this world, {system} according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.'

The 'children of disobedience' are lost sinners who are owned by Satan. This means that the evil one, though living in a person of culture, is nevertheless in the family of the Devil. And yes, I do believe there are demons around all of us who tempt us to go astray. Now, I do sound like an old fashioned preacher.

You and I and all who love Jesus are in the family of God. [I John 3:9] The Greek says, that we do not practice sinning. Why? Because we want to be like our Lord and He is conforming us into His likeness. [Romans 8:29]

Blessings to you and all of yours . . .

Let's celebrate and worship Him right now!

    Do you agree?

Yes to all. Satan is alive and hard at work, but will be defeated. Yes, people can be possessed by demons.

Yes - demons are fallen angels and they are all here - present and accounted for.

Aliens of the "real order" - not from some other planet - but fallen from heaven itself and far more evil, powerful and intelligent than typical myths about aliens portray.

Col. 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Hebrews 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him.

2 Corinthians 2:14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

Ephesians 2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.

Ephesians 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

FEAR NOT! JESUS is in control!

1 Peter 5 "The devil goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour".

Eph 6 "We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and the forces of darkness".

Eph 2 the spirit of the power of the air enslaves the people of earth today.

2 Cor 4:4 The god of this world blinds the eyes of people today.

Rev 12 - "Woe to the earth... the devil has come down to you with great wrath knowing that he has a short time"

Christ points out that the lake of fire is prepared for the devil and his angels - and in Rev 20 - we see that at the end of the 1000 years - they enter it.

I had heard that non-Christians could be possessed by a demon, but Christians can only be oppressed by a demon.

    Has anyone else heard this?

Yes we do all seem to agree then! They are here today.

Yes, Living4Him, that is the way I understand it too.

Now another question: can a Christian have a demon in them (not posessed, just demonized)?

To quote Hal Lindsey, "Satan is alive and well on Planet Earth." That is about the only thing he's correct about. [IMG] If you doubt that Satan exists, try this experiment. Try living for God. Try being righteous. Try standing up for Christ. I'll bet the Enemy will soon make his presence known.

No. A Christian is the temple of the Holy Spirit and no man can serve two masters nor can the Holy Spirit and satanic forces live within the same body.

    Tam,

I John 3:9 says, in the Greek that the seed of the Holy Spirit remains in us and that the Christian cannot make a {practice} of sinning because God will not give any room inside our soul, if you will, to the Evil one. Peter says that this Divine Person in us is incorruptible [I Peter 1:23] and that He of course, lives forever in us.

A Christian can be tempted an can commit almost any serious sin as well as things like jealousy. Yes, I do know and believe that in the sight of God one sin would send us to Hell, save for His atonement which covers our bodies and souls.

The difference between a Christian and a sinner is that the Christian cannot practice all the sins that he used to do, while a non-Christian makes a practice of all kinds of sins and does not care if it offends Almighty God.

A new Christian especially will understand the temptations of the old life he once lived, but will enjoy the Presence of the Holy Spirit, and hopefully will not want to sin against himself and the Lord Jesus.

How right you are Jude, which is why we shouldn’t only pray for our protection from temptation, but we should also pray for our leaders of our church, which IMO, Satan works extra hard at trying to deceive by causing doubt by questioning their faith.

    Jude,

I do agree with you! A friend once told me that if you don't think you're being hindered by the devil, or bothered by him you need to check your faith, because you may be walking side by side with him.

I think he tries to bother us any chance he gets!!

Praise the Lord for His protection!!

Sure, very likely. I've never witnessed any such activity, though. However, I have seen the work of Satan in peoples' lives, including my own. Two different things.

I've seen people act obsessively about something that made no sense. Extreme hate, violence, gore, insanity, perversion = demon activity.

I've seen people who spoke insanely, even foaming at the mouth, paranoid individuals who said bizarre things that could not possibly be true or real.

"All the pennies on the street. They're trying to tell me something, aren't they?" and worse.

All extreme, unrepentant cravings--and extraordinary devotion to bizarre or occult ideas--are good indicators of possible unclean spirit possession.

Demon posssession is more common than we might think. We know little of the private lives and inner thoughts of other people, including work associates, neighbors, pastors, deacons, relatives, etc.

Many serial killers seemed like nice guys to their neighbors and family.

I praise God that we can focus on His Holiness and Love and have joy in our hearts...not worrying about demons, but aware that they could suddenly manifest themselves in nearly any person at almost any time.

Recall, Jesus said to Peter: "Satan get thee behind Me." The other disciples may have thought that Jesus was being rather harsh and extreme, calling Peter "Satan"--or calling something manifesting itself within Peter's declaration "Satan."

Can Christians be possessed? Haven't come to a firm conclusion yet. Christians do have both the Holy Spirit and evil carnal desires ("flesh") that struggle against each other, see GALATIANS.

I'll let smarter theologians discuss that one. I'm not sure, but know that Christians can be very unrenewed in their minds. Epistles are full of stern warnings to put on the mind of Christ and quit walking in darkness.

I wouldn't call that demon activity. I'd call that sinful activity.

I think it's a stretch to presume that serial killers are demon possessed. Plus, it detracts fro the biblical notion that we're responsible for your sinful actions.

    Amen, I agree!!

As a general biblical rule, it's reasonable to understand that a person, like you and I, who is possessed with the Holy Spirit, cannot become possessed with a demon. The Holy Spirit and and evil spirit cannot coexist.

As I said earlier, Satan and demons = two entirely different things. Peter was giving in to thoughts that came from Satan, not from God. That's why Jesus said what he did. he wasn't impying the Peter was being influenced or filled with demons.

I'd have to say, no, a Christian is generally immune from being possessed, for the reason I said earlier. But a spirit filled Christian still sins. Why? I refer again to Satan and demons being two separate topics. We encounter the works of Satan every day. But many of us often go through life without ever seeing the effect of demons.

Yes - as Paul states to the church at Corinth. Those who offer sacrifices to idols are offering sacrifices to demons.

No one argues that point. I'm simply saying we shouldn't use "Satan" and "demons" interchangeably, any more than we interchange "God" and "angels".
