The Census doesn't care about a person's immigration status. We don't even ask. All we want is a head count.

I actually got to put in six hours today. I didn't mean to but that's how it worked out. I like to have never got away from a couple of houses as the folks were very nice and chatty. Add the time for the crew leader's meeting this morning (and one I am about to leave for) and I will have about seven and a half hours today.

    Yes.

You will never find a post where I have suggested otherwise. Our obligation to the New Testament command to honor our leaders is that we obey their laws. The Census is a Constitutional act which has been legally upheld (see Morales v. Evans...this includes the lengthy questions from 2000.)

Also the US Code, which is really what operates functionally our government (the Constitution is the boilerplate for it) has some explicit sections. Now the New Testament says to submit to the rulers God has placed over us. It doesn't say "bicker about the laws they make." It says graciously submit.

Seems like those who are angry about the Census don't really have much of a case in regards to the New Testament for not filling it out. As I understand Christianity the New Testament is the standard of our practice.

The Constitution grants the government the power to do a Census...frankly it commands them.

The Census and all of its questions (seriously are we still complaining about the questions?) are a legally upheld document from the government. It isn't your concern to question anymore, the courts have upheld the additional questions as Constitutional. You just need to fill it out and mail it back in.

Seems to me there's something in scripture about obeying the higher authority. In this country the higher authorites are God and the U.S. constitution.

Our elected public servants are just that public servants. They are not above the law (as you seem to be implying here by misinterpreting scripture) which in this case is the constitution and the constitution says there are two reasons for a census. No more no less.

It says nothing about gathering personal information from citizens so giant corporations can figure out how to target consumers better nor does it say anything about gathering personal information so socialists can figure out how to better distribute the wealth they steal from some to give to others.

And if the courts uphold such goings on then the courts themselves have been corupted by thinking it's "constitutional" for them to legislate from the bench.

Because it is not. Just doing something over and over doesn't make it right or legal.

Hey ya'll. Answer your doors even if you've sent in your census form, please. Our area is finding that we haven't received complete information on who has returned their form. This is NOT the enumerators fault! We have to put something on the form in our hand. Just tell us that you returned the original form, you aren't doing it again (we'll mark it refused and put a note on it to that extent) and give us your name and number (in case your original got lost). That will make life easier for us all!

Also, if the person coming to your door does not show you ID, DON'T LET THEM IN! Enumerators are supposed to be wearing their badges around their necks. If you don't see it, send them away. We've been hearing of bad people impersonating us for the purpose of breaking into or casing out houses. Don't let this happen to you.

Thank You. Back to your regularly scheduled debate on the constitutionality of gathering more information than the number living in your household.

What debate? The constitution says what it says. If the courts say it says something other than what it says then the court is wrong. Not much of a debate at all.

So what happens if any of us choose to uphold the constitution instead of being railroaded by a corupt government and court system? Will they send out the thugs and goons to enforce their illegal "laws"?

My wife told me this story I don't know how true it is but it goes like this.

A friend of a friend of my wife has an adult son who is also autistic. However, he lives alone with the occassional assistance. One day his mother got a call from her son who said "I need to talk to you" She said "can't it wait? I'm pretty busy" he replied "No, I caught a troll".
    "what?"
    "I've caught a troll"
    "We can play games later"
"No, I'm serious I caught a troll and have him locked up in the closet"
Wondering what her son was talking about she went to his house and he showed her the closet where a man with dwarfism was tied up. He had been going house to house for the census.

My choir director at church, the Rev. James Whitmire, told me that story also claiming to know the mother of the autistic (retarded in the version I heard) son. Snopes listed it as an urban legend. If it's real, I want to try to trace the origin of the story to find out if it's true. Can you try to find out more?
