    I didn't vote, I've decided to identify myself as a Peculiar Baptist.:saint:

1 Peter 2:9-10 9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

I voted, because I wanted to get a general lay of BB land on this oft-discussed issue. I hope more people will vote!

Ignatius, Justin, and Irenaeus all predate Augustine by a good distance; the former would seem to be in the non-Calvinist camp.

Certainly Augustine held to total depravity and substitutionary atonement. They are incorporated in John Calvin’s views. But “Calvinism” as many would see it is definitely post-Calvin. I think that we could date it to Beza. Beza answered questions that arose by viewing Scripture through a “Calvinistic” lens. But if you drop off limited atonement (the type that would say Christ was a propitiation for our sins, and the sins of the whole world meaning the elect around the world) – then you get Calvin. Beyond Calvin, the next step in my view is Luther. So, I pick Beza or Calvin.

I am very very strongly grounded in Gods wonderfull Doctrins of Grace. Praise God for them. What glorious liberty and freedom we have as children of the King.

However, I have long since reputiated the calvinism that I once held to.

I think of it now as sort of an "anti-grace" theology.

I just got to where I couldnt be part of it anymore

I could call myself an "odd-ball" baptist, but there's a lodge that goes by "odd fellows", and they might confuse me with them.... :D

Why 100 (rather than, say, 300 or 650, Jonathan? To make it easier to work out percentages?

I just know from certain Bible version polls in that forum that it takes 3-4 months at least to keep the poll active to get up to 100 votes on the BB, and the more who vote the more accurate the result, on average.

I answered it in a general way as i would if someone asked if I am a Baptists. Yes, but that label has lots of wiggle room and many Calvinist/Baptist might not consider me a good or fully compliant Calvinist/Baptist depending on the issue of the day.

He requires us to have faith in order to accept jesus and get saved, he also knows NONE of us have it within ourselves, so He grants that as a gift towards His elect!

Although my pastor is a Calvinist, I am not. It is the only Baptist church within 50 miles of me.

Thanks for taking time to vote. Currently of BB members who decided to participate in the poll, more consider themselves non-Calvinists by a ratio of 6:3.

Thanks for voting. Now there are 37 who have elected. The question is, was their vote predetermined or simply foreknown?
