I have always been and still am for the electoral college system because it gives small states a greater voice in who wins the election for the Presidency. Sometimes I do wish the vote for Vice-President was a seperate ballot. In the case of this year, I wish the two on the Republican ticket had reversed positions.

I have noticed one trend I really do not care for. With the advanced statistical projections which are usually accurate, Presidential candidates tend to ignore states that are set in stone which kind of takes away from the purpose of the Electoral College. For example, it is a waste of money and time for either Romney or Obama to campaign in states like Kentucky or California, because neither state is going to change their status.

Without the Electoral College the small states would likely have no voice.

There have been other threads about this, with polls too.

I'll keep my point simple: I agree with OldRegular. The EC is a genius part if the American system.

Since the U.S. is a republic, I will agree with you for this same reason.

Without the EC, I would not have to endure endless TV commercials every 4 years because no one would care how Washington State voted.

It isn't exactly the EC, it is the two votes assigned to every state regardless of population.

I'll not debate the issue but I believe in one vote for one person even though GW would have lost.
