If you have read James Allen's book "As A Man Thinketh"

His belief is that Mankind a growth by law & not a creation by artifice (Allen's Words specifically). Allen believes "cause & effect" in our thinking process is what makes our character. A critical point he makes is "Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts & actions can never produce good results. "

He goes on saying that 'Suffering' is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction & that suffering will ultimately bring about purity.

Ultimately its all about "Thought" Correct thinking will in effect result in Peace, Harmony & Health.

Please excuse the pun, but what are your thoughts on this subject matter?

Christ pretty well summed it up. A corrupt tree cannot yield good fruit. Is mankind good or corrupt?

It really depends upon where your going with this, right?

If a man looks lustfully at a woman (who is not his wife) he has committed a "mental" adultery according to Christ.

If we covet, then are we not sinning & isn't it prescribed by our Lord to not harbor those thoughts? When we are angry with others, are we not being mentally discourteous ....even violent at times?

I've not read it, nor have I ever heard of its author.

If an opinion is to be formed based solely on the OP, mine would be that I hope that you didn't pay much for the book.

I'm just going with the descriptions of Allen's teaching in your post:

His belief is that Mankind a growth by law & not a creation by artifice (Allen's Words specifically). Allen believes "cause & effect" in our thinking process is what makes our character. A critical point he makes is "Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results
He seems to ignore the fact that the heart of man is corrupt. Good things don't make it good, it corrupts good things.

He goes on saying that 'Suffering' is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction & that suffering will ultimately bring about purity.
Christ said persecution is brought about by righteous living.

Ultimately its all about "Thought" Correct thinking will in effect result in Peace, Harmony & Health.
Sounds more like Eastern mysticism than like Christianity.

Sounds like he disregarded the truth of a fallen world, an dus as fallen sinners living in it!

I thought you may want to know James Allen is involved in the heresy of New Thought and that this teaching has infiltrated the 'church' and has become more and more popular and deceptive.

Searching his name and teachings will reveal more about this error.

The book title sounds appealing as it uses (and misuses) Scripture. New Thought is found within WoF ministries, Unity Churches, is the basis of teachings in The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and is also the basis of teachings of Joel Osteen and many others. This is nothing less than false teaching dressed up to look like Christianity by false ministers who transform themselves into ministers of light, 2 Cor. 11:12-15.

Note this link and scroll down about half way and note the teachings of New Thought beliefs in the box on the right.

We are expected to undergo purification from sin (sanctification).
Other passages show that we do this by yielding to the Spirit of God and obedience to His word.

    Note: vss 4 and 8 below (1 John 3).
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law
    ...
    8 He that committeth sin is of the devil;

"commiteth sin" is an active present participle - whoever is "practicing sin" or actively dominated by the principle of sin and death is of the devil.

Personally I believe a Christian (as well as the unregenerate) can find themselves in this category but if so he/she is headed for a fall (not from salvation but from fellowship with the Father, chastisement and even physical death).

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

1 Corinthians 11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

think the message there in those passages quoted was that the Chrsitian has been set free to NOT do as the flesh demands, that he can now chose to submit to the Spirit and His empowering to overcome the flesh, but that the person will also at times sin against the lord, but will jt be in alifestyle thathabitually, that the normal way is to keep on sinning...

I don't see anything about Peck that shows him to be part of the New Thought fallacy. Do you have any documentation that he is connected?

Are you familiar with New Thought and its error as I see no link between it and Peck? I'm not certain why you would ask if he were connected, it seems you are unfamiliar with the topic perhaps?

Check out New Thought, it's an eye opener, and has been around for years, popularized among certain preachers here in the US, and I believe it to be a continuation of the lie in the Garden about being gods. Nothing new under the Sun.
