Which is the greater authority concerning scripture, the authority of the congregation or the authority of individual conscience?

Baptists would say the individual convictions/preferences of the Bible, as long as not holdng to heritical doctrines!

Unfortunately, it *seems* many of the positions the congregation take is birthed out of individual conscience.

Our authority, both as individuals and as a congregation is derivative.

Those welding their derived authority should apply it gracefully; all too often authority is applied forcefully and becomes burdensome, ineffective or worse, counter-productive.

There’s a relationship between corporate authority and individual freedoms.

If either the individual or congregation falls short in some area, correction should be properly applied.

Respect, genuine brotherly love, honor, all play important roles in the dance between the corporate and individual aspects in the application of authority.

The question to be asked before confrontation is: Are we faithfully transmitting the authority of the One we derive our power from?
