In response to Dr. Cassidy's comments, perhaps the best thing to do is simply to quote our Lord Jesus Christ:

"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."
    John 17:20-23

    Bro. Pastor Larry you said:

You are correct; poor choice of words on my part.

The proper word should have been symbol; or figurative.

As to the O.T. standing on its own, I simply believe this is the scripture God gave to the nation of Israel to provide the shadow of the Everlasting Covenant; Hebrews 10.1

The O.T. records the same Everlasting Covenant if it properly could have stood on its own, then there was no need for the New Testament.
Israel would have not misunderstood the nature of the Messiah; would perhaps have received Their King.
God Bless you in your walk and service to Him.

Follow the above url to an article on the Jewish wedding ceremony. Then ask yourself why Jesus spoke of the relationship of the church and Himself as a bride. Was it because this was the experience of His audience, this usage would bring to mind the wedding, supper etc. described in the article?

Yes. I believe the church is that body Baptized by the Holy Spirit; all believers are indwelt by the Spirit, nevertheless, there is but one bride.

God Bless all in your walk and service to Him.
