Is there a place where the most common Baptist beliefs are compared and contrasted? Maybe in chart form?

I did a google search and found that most sites relating to this are what that organisation believes. Which is cool but what I wonder is when for instance someone posts and says "Well I'm a ...." how can we know what that is. If you know what someone believes you know where they are comming from. And that makes it easier to communicate with them. With all of the different types of Baptist we have here I'd like to understand better if I could. [IMG]

    Dear Brian,

Baptist's have what we call "Baptist Distinctives" that almost all Baptist groups hold to. A list of the distinctives can be found at the following address:

Thats good and what I believe as well. I'm Southern Baptist and have read the "Baptist Faith and Message" which out lines the same things. What I was more looking for were things like pre/post millinealist, Female preachers(not commenting), eternal security, limited atonement. I know each congegation within each denomination will have thier own little quirks but there are some differences and I was hoping for a quick reference on some of these aspects. :D

I'm not sure that there is one, perhaps someone else knows of one. Or hey- you could be the first to make one! For now though I would think that you would have to go to each organizations site.

    Brian,

In the areas you mention, the distinctive of "Soul Liberty" allows for a vast diversity on those issues, albiet some of them are heated debates. It is precisely these types of issues that are causing rifts within the SBC, IFB, etc., where lines of fundamental, moderate, and liberal are being drawn depending on the position taken. Here's a website you might find interesting:

I have a list contrasting what SBC folks believe compared to CBF people. I don't know if that would help you or not.

Tom, do you have that posted on the Baptist Board anywhere? I can't speak for Brian, but I would certainly find it interesting.

Tom, if you're talking about Roger Moran's literature,

    Here's the link.

I should point out that Roger's a friend of mine, but he is a harsh critic of the CBF. It should be also noted that, even though the CBF includes people that believe the things he names, not all of those things are normative within the CBF (and some of them are still present in SBC churches).

Anyone comparing baptist groups should note that nonoe of them are going to be monolithic in their beliefs because of the nature of baptist polity. Likewise, there are churches who continue to affiliate with the SBC out of nothing more than habit or tradition, even though their theology is more in line with the middle of the CBF.
