(Phoenix-AP) -- The minister who called Muhammad "a demon-possessed pedophile" at last year's Southern Baptist pastors' conference has appeared again this year to restate his faith in Jesus Christ and the Bible. At this week's gathering in Phoenix, the Reverend Jerry Vines of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida, didn't refer directly to Islam or its founder. But he told his fellow pastors that "all religions are not equally true," and "There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved except the name of Jesus." The Reverend Vines said he was reading the statement "slowly so even Tom Brokaw can get it." Last February, the N-B-C anchorman accused Vines of "preaching a dangerous message" of "hate" against Islam. Vines responded then by noting that Muslim writings say Muhammad took a wife who was only nine years old.
