This was used in another thread but with a different context. Kevin Greeson said:

"Greeson, who has served with the International Mission Board since 1993, says he had little success during his first two years of working with Muslims in South Asia. They didn't believe Jesus was the Son of God or in his resurrection. They did not acknowledge the authority of the Bible, so quoting Scripture was useless."

Anyone who leads anything in the SBC or any church for that matter who thinks that using scripture is useless should be immediately removed from that position. When you have no faith in God or scripture and you are in a hurry to see results then you get heretical methods like this.

This thread is not about the ridiculous Camel Method itself but it is about the heretical mind set that says scripture is not enough so let us set it aside and use culture. Caner said it well:

"There's a huge difference between building a church and building a crowd," he said. "There's a huge difference between having a movement with results and having a movement with eternal results."

    Two things:

    1. This is not just about Caner blasting the camel Method

    2. Your link does not go to what ever you were trying to get to.

    Rev,

I agree with Caner here, it is totally wrong to use Muslim texts to shine light upon Jesus. Jesus is the Light of the world. Greeson's statement about scripture usage being useless is way out in left field. I understand that using scripture with atheists may seem foolish for they don't believe in any god at all. However Muslims do believe in monotheism so to use scripture wouldn't seem foolish at all. It is real scary to believe that a SBC missionary is refraining from using scripture to witness to lost people.

    Rev,

Notice I said "may seem foolish". I don't believe it's ever a foolish thing to use scripture in any situation. We know as Christians of its power. I just feel we need to get the lost to believe in God first before we use scripture to plant that seed of salvation. Of course this isn't always the best way to approach a witnessing situation and it's surely appropriate to use scripture at the beginning. Personally I feel using scripture to witness to someone who doesn't believe in God can lead to Matt 7:6, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

This is just the natural illegitimate offspring of the seeker sensitive/purpose driven movement, in my usually less than humble opinion.

Our closest SBC church doesn't mention "blood sacrifice" because the twentysomethings find that offensive.

It doesn't sing hymns OR CCM that is specifically Jesus focused, but rather uses vague "God talk" or "Spirit talk" so those into spirituallity but not the exclusiveness of Jesus Christ won't walk out the door.

The local fundamentalist Baptist church is so wrapped up in forcing one theory of creation, one political party, and making sure no woman prays in front of a male older than 12 that they fail to preach salvation.

Most of our other "evangelical" churches are off on their own tangents. The focus is some minute particle of theology rather than Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

DH and I were talking at breakfast--we can't remember the last time a Genesis based sermon pointed out the blood sacrifice in the skins of animals for aprons, or how Eve's seed would be bruised by the serpent but crush the serpent's head (foretelling Jesus).

We've heard lots of sermons about how we need to be righteous, but none lately about how ALL our righteous acts are as filthy rags in God's sight, meaning we need a Savior.

Now, if we won't speak the truth in our own safe churches, how can we expect it of folks on the mission field?

Or to be blunt, we are so focused on whatever fattens our wallets we refuse to preach the gospel since it is "scandal."

    You have gotten this backwards.
