I just watched a town hall meeting of Barack Obama. He stated that he does not support homosexual marriage. So, if Senator Obama is the Democratic Party presidential nominee no one should say that he supports homosexual marriage. Anyone who says such a thing will not be telling the truth.

As long as he's still just a candidate he'll say that.

As long as the polls say so, he'll say so. But, let that change and I'll bet he'll change his stance.

    Really!

I suppose you could play semantical gymnastics with his words and make such a claim. But ultimately it ranks right up there with the claim that Obama is a strict Constitutionalist. Neither claim has an ounce of credibility.

Barack Obama and Gay Marriage/ Civil Unions: Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage. In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, "I'm a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman."
Barack Obama did vote against a Federal Marriage Amendment and opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996.
He said he would support civil unions between gay and lesbian couples, as well as letting individual states determine if marriage between gay and lesbian couples should be legalized. "Giving them a set of basic rights would allow them to experience their relationship and live their lives in a way that doesn't cause discrimination," Obama said. "I think it is the right balance to strike in this society."

It just proves that Obama is a liar.

He will say one thing and then another...

Oh, I have no doubt that he said such.

I just have my doubts as to whether he means it.

I would be absolutely shocked if Barack Obama doesn't push to add "sexual orientation" to all federal discrimination laws...and when you get down to freedoms, intrusion on religion, etc., that is where some damaging legisltaion could take place.

Sorry Ken, there's nothing I said that I feel was out of line. His political philosophy is consistent with what I "forecast."

And won't be fighting against you very hard this campaign season. At this point, I doubt I'm fighting very hard at all for a presidential candidate. (can't get too fired up for any of them! )

I'll put all my energy on local and congressional stuff.

Do you think the guy really "does not support homosexual marriage," as you stated? or with his talk about "civil unions" and states' options to legalize queer marriage, that he is taking the approach of getting enough states to affirm this and then to make it a federal civil rights matter?

Meanwhile, I am a very willing fighter.

Baptist Press is not a reliable news source. It is the house organ of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee and agencies. They have a long history of misrepresenting people they oppose.

I don't actually know what Obama's position on gay marriage and/or homosexual issues currently is, but I certainly wouldn't consider Baptist Press a reliable source for making that determination.

It at one time was not reliable. It was at one time a tool by the liberla left in the convention. It has since become reliable and very well grounded.

If he truly supports civil unions but opposes gay marriage he stands exactly where President Bush stood in the 2004 election.

    You beat me to it.

There is nothing Obama can say or do that will cause these Christ-loving posters to even extend common courtesy to him.

It amazes me at the hypocrisy of so many that name the name of Christ. If Obama is in favor of same-sex marriage he is wrong, but if he is against same-sex marriage he is a liar.

In looking at the Scripture it appears that these posters are more in line with the Pharisees who attempted to trick Jesus than they do with Jesus Himself!

It doesn't matter Roger, he's a democrat, and that is all that matters.

Now, if McCain were to adopt the very same position, it would be wise and prudent, but of course, he's a republican.

BTW, I agree with Obama's stance completely! It is the only one that makes sense to me. To allow homosexual couples the same benefits as married couples, while opposing same-sex marriage is the right thing to do.

I honestly don't know anyone who would argue the position you just spelled out. I don't think republicans by and large are for civil unions.

Besides, there aren't too many social conservatives out there that like McCain that much.

In the past, I've also argued for homosexual civil unions as a compromise between granting homosexual couples the legal rights of heterosexual couples while recognizing the sacredness of marriage being between a man and a woman. It seems Obama agrees with this view. This position is in line with his ethos of sticking with his principles while working with and respecting the views of all parties involved for positive change.
