Welcome Back Blackbird! I can't wait to hear your commentary on what you and your family went through. The whole BB was praying for you, and praise God for your safe return.

In the midst of all the bad news, we can thank God for the good news: that our BB family is well.

I'm having a hard time following who has reported in and who has't. Does anyone know which BB members are still missing?

Praise God Tater, Blackbird, and the others who have reported in are safe.

    Bill,

I was under the impression that Tater and Blackbird were the only two that had not reported in, but I could be wrong.

I am sure Sue and/or Diane will have the right answer.

I'm not sure that anyone is actually keeping up with who is checking in.
There are still some from Mississippi that I have run across on the BB that I have not seen on here since the hurricane.

Of the regular posters, all have checked in.

I would have to go through the whole membership to find if any others are still missing that don't post often.

If anyone has any names, please let me know and I will try to locate them.

    Thanks!

Well we are O.K. in Millport, AL. We live across the state line from Columbus, MS. The whole town lost power Monday afternoon and most got it back by Thursday evening, though some were out longer.
There was little real storm damage. Some trees and power lines down. Some shingles lost. Katrina was still a category 1 as she passed over us. Lots of hard wind.

I sorry to say we griped some about no power, airconditioning, TV, and some sewer problems (Had water, couldn't flush without over flow).
When we finally saw some news and pictures of the Gulf coast and New Orleans we were ashamed.
Thanking God for His grace and mercy. Praying for those who have lost family members, friends, homes and and jobs.
Pray for all those opening their homes to the survivors. Pray that a loving witness for Jesus Christ will be given and many will accept Him as Lord and Savior.
We have at least three new families in our small town and expect more.
Pray with us as we seek to minister to these in need.
    Tom

    BroTom64,
I know how you feel. I lost electricity and phone. In various conversations with others who were also without electricity I found myself saying, "Thank God we are still alive and that we still have homes to even have electricity".

Hey! I am back! This is my official Check-in I think. Thank you to all you who prayed, tried to contact, and have given your time and resources to help out.

I had been through one big hurricane before. (Frederick in 1979). This was so overwhelming, I could not even fathom its power. I am not sure I could even describe what we saw and experienced those weeks after the hurricane. Our home was on the water system of another town, so we got water back before many others did. We were having 25-30 in our home daily to bathe in cold water. My precious daughters never complained once about it. There were af ew days we were afraid our food and drink supply would run out, and we were very prepared. That was a scary time. The National Guard came and camped in tent cities and brought MRE's and ice/water. It literally looked like a war zone, and largely, it still does. Many still do not have phone and literally every house you see here has damage. It was a very powerful growth experience. I journaled every day so that my children will one day be able to look back and know how it was. They were so funny about the food - every time I mention beanie weenies to this day, they run and hide, lol.
It is amazing, though, how God worked through all this. He is so eloquently described in Psalm 29 as sitting high above the flood, orchestrating all things, as Sovereign Lord. We never once went without what we needed, and we were and are so blessed. I dont know why God choses to do what he does, and I know that his grace isnt always fair. We feel terrible that many of our friends homes and even our former church on St. Bernard parrish LA were completely destroyed. I mean, gone, no longer even there. Our home and town wont be back to normal for quite some time still, but we have so much to be thankful.
Isaiah 64 says "Oh that You would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you." I had prayed for some time that He would do just that. I have been praying to see more of who He is, his character, his heart. He is definitely answering that prayer in my life, and I hope in the lives of others as well.
Thats all I am gonna write about the storm unless anyone has specific questions. Thank you all again for your prayers. I knew you were praying, and that meant the world to me.
    Love, TaterTot

    Glad you're back Tater!!

I have friends living in campers in their driveway in Kenner, LA(Greater New Orleans)--they got 4 1/2 feet of water in the house---they are in the process of repairing and will stay in New Orleans

another friend lives across the river from downtown New Orleans in Gretna and was "high & dry"---didn't get any water in his house---just a few shingles blew off and a tree limb through the very corner of the roof---simple to repair!

Hi TaterTot! Welcome back...you were missed!

I love the scriptures you remembered from Psalm 29 and Isaiah 64...how very descriptive of how awesome God is!

I do have a question, though, as I have thought about you many times the last several weeks. Knowing you and "the munchkins" from BB, I would like to know where your family was during the actual storm, what was going through your mind, and how you kept the kids calm, as I am sure they were terribly frightened, as were all of you.

Being from North Central Texas, I am familiar with tornados which hit quickly with not much warning, but are gone just as quickly leaving a lot of devastation in a short period of time. I really cannot imagine what must go through ones' mind having to wait several days for a hurricane, and then having it last so long.

So, what were you doing as the actual storm passed through? Did you remember (and quote) scripture? Or did you just pray it would be over quickly?

I hope that is not too personal, but I really would like to know your experiences during the storm itself. I know the last time a tornado was in my immediate area, it was a frightening time, but I also felt God with me in a very powerful way and even though I was scared, I had a peace about the storm.

Would you be willing to share some of your thoughts during that time?

    CJ
