Do you consider a non-believing man who is Jewish, Mormon, atheist, ect who becomes our President (or King, ect for other countries) would come under the category of being "unequally yoked together"?

I started this thread due to a statement in this BB comment

Considering most of the "Christian" presidents have not been at all, I don't see the difference. I'd rather choose a man who stands more closely for the things that I do but has a different "belief" system than I do than to choose one who has the "same" system than I do but votes very differently than I do morally.

Well apparently Steaver is not "yoking". Just to be more specific he made the statement in Post # 22 of the BB thread

Ann, I do agree with you

No, not at all. Unless of course one has had a part in placing the person into power as their representative. This would certainly fall under the yoking scripture.

If it doesnt apply to representative election then it wouldn't apply to marriage or business partnerships or any other kind of binding relationship between two people. you might as well cut it out of your bibles and forget about it. If I vote for a person, I am asking that person to partner with me in running our government, we the people govern this country and it is by yoking up with the one who we want to represent us in the government.

You have the freedom to make that call Ann. As for me, I will follow God's instructions on this matter.

And what is that? Can you show me the verse that tells us who to vote for?

So then by voting for someone you become responsible for all of the actions of that someone?

And exactly what is the "binding relationship" that I have with someone that I vote for?

I am no longer free to discern and judge the rightness of their actions?

    No hyperbole there.

Tell you what you can do. Go to the passage in question (2Cor6:14-18) and you be our teacher/preacher for this study and tell us how we can apply this to our lives. Fair enough?

Remember, your own standard has required your application must be spelled out.

Same challenge to you targus as I presented to Ann. Study the passage in question and you be the teacher/preacher for the lesson and show us how this can be applied to our lives today. Fair enough?

Also Ann if you could, as you put together the lesson on "unequally yoked" go ahead and include a lesson on Collosians 3:17 explaining how voting would not fall under this verse as a deed.

I disagree. In principle they're employees, not partners.

I have always considered my vote as my approval of the hiring of a candidate, not an acceptance of a mutually equal partnership. They are public servants. If they don't do the job right, they're fired at the next election.

You are hiring the person to "represent" you. THis is our system, "representative". Ste aside the unbeliever part even and If the person you vote for is pro-abortion and you know it then you are approving of abortion. So either way you look at it, we are accountable to God for who we cast our vote for.

I think Steaver is talking about Mitt Romney - if you vote for him.- since he is not born again.

but on the other hand - to the best of my knowledge -Sanantaorn and Ron Paul have never indicated a proffession of Jesus Christ as Saviour....

Not unlike hiring an attorney to represent me in legal matters. Or a manager in business matters. Or an agent in real estate matters. Get the idea?

You're off base. I'm neither for abortion nor do I vote for those who are.

You are the one making the assertion so it is incumbent upon you to support your assertion.

    Can you?
