FEBRUARY 4, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The University of Vermont has cancelled a speaking engagement by Ben Stein, the writer and actor whose film "Expelled" has enraged the secularist academic community with his critical views on their strident devotion to the secularist Darwinian theory.

The university's president, Daniel Fogel, said that the university was deluged with email complaints at the choice of commencement speaker, some of which accused Stein of being "anti-science". Fogel said that when he was informed of the criticism, Stein declined the invitation.

At first, I kind of had my doubts about Ben Stein, what he stood for & things like that. When he came out with that documentary, that answered any doubts that I had.

I'm watching it right now... while I still am not convinced that Ben believes what he's sharing, it's obvious that he is a proponent for the freedom of intelligence.

I saw "Expelled." I thought it made some good points about censoring opposing views to evolution at the university level.

The concluding interivew with Dawkins is priceless.

Expelled is nothing but a poorly-made, poorly-researched screed against science. He should go back to game shows and Ferris Bueller. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Evolution is not science. The movie makes good points. Like global warming, debate is discouraged, and skeptics are slandered. Some questions are just not allowed. That's the point the movie makes.

Either you know nothing about it or you have let your bias run wild. In any case you could not be more wrong.

I agree. Backed him into his stupid cornerand then breathed on his "genius" glasses.

The movie makes good points, and I'm standing by that statement. I agree with Marcia, in that I am not convinced about his faith. But the movie demonstrates the fear of a creator in the "scientific" community.

Did the numerous Al Gore critics do anything to discredit his stupid movie, in your view ?

For what ever reason, science has always tried to disprove everything that The Bible teaches. You can drop a ton of scientific evidence in front of me to prove that there is no God; It won't change my belief.

It seems that Atheism is always negative about things. Atheists are never happy unless others are saddened or discouraged. It seems like they have nothing to live for & they just want to make everyone else who believes differently as they do as miserable as possible.

It isn't just atheists who accept science. Many Christians view the Genesis story as a parable, not meant to convey methodolody, but theological truths. And if you are against science, I suppose you will be sure not to take your children to a doctor if they become seriously ill.

Curtis, what are you saying I am misrepresenting? And what about the Gore movie? I haven't watched it yet, so I cannot comment on it. I only saw bits and pieces. Been meaning to watch it, but haven't had the time.

You are misrepresenting us by saying we won't take our kids to a doctor if we believe Genesis. Sure seems to be what you said.

You misunderstood. Go reread my comment. I said "IF" you are against science. Pointing out the hypocracy of being anti-science while living with many benefits derived from it, which is nothing than the study of how things work. I am sure almost all here DO take their kids to the doc...but it points out that one should not denegrate something which they use to enrich their lives.

What evolutionists do is not science. It is a personal agenda.

I don't believe Genesis is anti-science. That is your assumption.

I think that you think creationists are dumb. Ben Stein seems to be saying the establishment doesn't like our questions. This has you all hot under the collar for some reason.

No it isn't. I was addressing Bossman's comment, not you. He said:
    You said:
    That's your assumption.
