Larry said in an earlier post that he is designing a course on the Bible. This is an area for which he needed material.

    Why not?

You have attempted to defend an incorrect doctrine about a version of the word of God with articles & posts. What's the difference that and in defending the version itself?

Of all such books, IMO, Dr. Holland's Crowned With Glory is the best of the class, but he still cannot justify the Onlyism myth. There's NO defending that.

Since most if not all KJV-only books defend a view of Bible translation that at several points is very different from the view of Bible translation held by the KJV translators, perhaps one of a couple books that present the view held by the KJV translators would be an option. Either one of these books along with the preface to the 1611 edition of the KJV could be used to present that view.

Fulke, William. A DEFENCE OF THE SINCERE AND TRUE TRANSLATIONS OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES INTO THE ENGLISH TONGUE. Edited by Charles
    Hartshorne. Cambridge: University Press, 1843.

Whitaker, William. A DISPUTATION ON HOLY SCRIPTURE AGAINST THE PAPAISTS. Translated and edited by William Fitzgerald. Cambridge: University Press, 1849.

Photocopy reprints of both Fulke's book and Whitaker's book were available from Still Waters Revival Books of Canada. These two books written by Puritans in the late 1500's present the view of Bible translation that would have been held by the KJV translators.

One book I have not seen here is Which Bible Can You Trust? by Les Garrett. He is KJVO, but he relies heavily on Burgeon.

if truth matters, perhaps the best defenders of the KJB are books by D.A. Carson, James White, Kevin Bauder, Randy Shaylor, et al. (hey, maybe we could throw in Westcott and Hort, too!), rather than the likes of, um, so many already mentioned.

they describe the KJB as it really is, without being disrespectful, while leaving out the apocryphal and the hagiographic.

:Fish: The best book to defend the KJB is the book of Jude! AV 1611

Jud 1:1 Iude the seruant of Iesus Christ, and brother of Iames,
to them that are sanctified by God the Father,
and preserued in Iesus Christ, & called:
Jud 1:2 Mercie vnto you, and peace, and loue be multiplied.
Jud 1:3 Beloued, when I gaue all diligence to write vnto
you of the common saluation: it was needfull for mee to
write vnto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly
contend for the faith which was once deliuered vnto the Saints.
Jud 1:4 For there are certaine men crept in vnawares,
who were before of olde ordained to this condemnation,
vngodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciuiousnesse,
and denying the onely Lord God, & our Lord Iesus Christ.
Jud 1:5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though
ye once knew this, how that the Lord hauing saued
the people out of the land of Egypt afterward destroied
    them that beleeued not.
Jud 1:6 And the Angels which kept not their || first estate,
but left their own habitation, he hath reserued
in euerlasting chaines vnder darkenesse, vnto the iudgement of the great day.
Jud 1:7 Euen as Sodom and Gomorrha,
and the cities about them, in like maner giuing themselues
ouer to fornication, and going after +strange flesh,
are set forth for an example, suffring the vengeance of eternall fire.
Jud 1:8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh,
despise dominion, and speake euill of dignities.
Jud 1:9 Yet Michael the Archangel, when contending with the deuill,
he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him
a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Jud 1:10 But these speake euill of those things, which they know not:
but what they knowe naturally, as brute beastes, in those things
    they corrupt themselues.
Jud 1:11 Wo vnto them, for they haue gone in the way of Kain,
and ranne greedily after the errour of Balaam, for reward,
and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
Jud 1:12 These are spottes in your feasts of charitie,
when they feast with you, feeding themselues without feare:
cloudes they are without water, caried about of winds,
trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twise dead, plucked vp by the rootes.
Jud 1:13 Raging waues of the sea, foming out their owne shame,
wandring stars, to whom is reserued the blacknesse of darkenesse for euer.
Jud 1:14 And Enoch also, the seuenth from Adam,
prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord commeth with ten thousands of his Saints,
Jud 1:15 To execute iudgement vpon all, and to conuince
all that are vngodly among them, of all their vngodly deeds
which they haue vngodly committed, and of all their heard speaches,
which vngodly sinners haue spoken against him.
Jud 1:16 These are murmurers complainers, walking after their
owne lustes, and their mouth speaketh great swelling wordes,
hauing mens persons in admiration because of aduantage.
Jud 1:17 But beloued, remember yee the words, which were
spoken before of the Apostles of our Lord Iesus Christ:
Jud 1:18 How that they tolde you there should be mockers
in the last time, who should walke after their own vngodly lustes.
Jud 1:19 These be they who separate themselues, sensual, hauing not the spirit.
Jud 1:20 But yee beloued, building vp your selues on your most holy faith, praying in the holy Ghost,
Jud 1:21 Keepe your selues in the loue of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Iesus Christ vnto eternall life.
Jud 1:22 And of some haue compassion, making a difference:
Jud 1:23 And others saue with feare, pulling them out of the fire: hating euen the garment spotted by the flesh.
Jud 1:24 Now vnto him that is able to keepe you from falling,
and to present you faultlesse before the presence of his glory
    with exceeding ioy,
Jud 1:25 To the onely wise God our Sauiour, be glory and maiestie,
dominion and power, now and euer. Amen.

    Sidenotes:
    || Jud 1:6 Or, principalitie
    + Jud 1:7 Gr, other.

Here is what I consider to be "the AV 1611".
What do others consider to be "the AV 1611"?

The most telling terms that are used here to describe
evil people is " ... despise dominion, and speake euill of dignities. ... "

IMHO Dr. Bob is a BB "dignity" and the local moderators
are 'dominions'. Those who respect not these people, especially
Dr. Bob, who is dying from the feet up, should not be allowed
    to post in this Forum.

How does this book defend the KJB?
BTW, i'm still having a problem getting somebody to show me
    a KJB.

David Clouds Books would be excellent in my opinion. I have read much of his work online and would recommend his books, (though I haven't purchased one yet. I'm a bit poor right now)
Dean Burgon's works are also highly recommended.
I own Grady's book, and though I enjoyed it, I came away a bit disappointed.
I would NOT recommend anything by Ruckman. ( I noticed nobody has mentioned him yet. And that's a good thing. My own opinion is that he is a lousy writer. Great preacher, but lousy writer.)

Is the jist of this topic supposed to be defending the KJV, or defending the notion that the KJV is the only repository of God's word?

The KJV does not need defending... it can defend itself. But, wait, no one is attacking it...

So your perfect doctorine is what we should teach! I mean One's opinion in Doctorin is based on the tradition handed down from the early church fathers But I, a mere layman can only trust Gods word and it says to stick to tradition! So I really haven't defended the ism that you claim I have but merly poited out that Of the lesser of the two evils I have chosen Neither! I have never said one way or the other that there is not another translation in English only that there sure are questionable material in some versions and those are mostly modernistic one wich are diffrent in all aspects of tradition and opinionated views; which you claim NOT to Be apart of: so I dont beleive in Isms only truth! :Fish:

Mr. Correa:So your perfect doctorine is what we should teach! [/i]

I assume you meant DOCTRINE? If so, I teach only those found in Scripture & reject those NOT found in Scripture. I have no doctrine of my own...I have merely assimilated those found in scripture, either directly, or by clear implication.

I mean One's opinion in Doctorin is based on the tradition handed down from the early church fathers But I, a mere layman can only trust Gods word and it says to stick to tradition!

    No, it DOESN'T.

In fact, JESUS upbraided certain of the Pharisees for placing the traditions of man in place of the commands of GOD. If a 'tradition' is not taken from scripture, it's bogus.

So I really haven't defended the ism that you claim I have but merly poited out that Of the lesser of the two evils I have chosen Neither!

Then why do you declare the KJV is the ONLY valid English Bible version when you know it isn't true?

I have never said one way or the other that there is not another translation in English only that there sure are questionable material in some versions and those are mostly modernistic one wich are diffrent in all aspects of tradition and opinionated views; which you claim NOT to Be apart of: so I dont beleive in Isms only truth!

Then what other English Bible version(s) wouldja recommend?

And, in keeping with the OP of this thread, what book(s) wouldja recommend to defend the KJV?

I guess then I'm GBO (Geneva Bible Only) ;)

Jud 1:11 (Geneva Bible Only) Wo be vnto them: for they haue
followed the way of Cain, and are cast away
by the deceit of Balaams wages, and perish in the gainsaying of Core.

I don't know the scientific name, but the nerve ends are
dying starting in the bottom of his feet and proceeding
slowly up his body - probably about his ancles by
now. This conditions is slow but
terminal. Personally I cut the man a little slack -- the milage
    of others will vary.

This information has been made available on the board,

    Jud 1:11 (KJV1611 Edition):
    Wo vnto them,
for they haue gone in the way of Kain,
and ranne greedily after the errour of Balaam, for reward,
and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

    KJV1769:
    Jude 1:11 (KJV1769 Edition):
    Woe unto them!
for they have gone in the way of Cain,
and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward,
and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

    This reads the same?

Both 'KJVs' and 'received texts' are plural
and not the usual singular: 'KJV' and 'received text'.
