I have been raised under their music my whole life, and it just concerns me how liberal they are in their associations. Here is an example, a singing with T.D. Jakes entitled "Build a Bridge"
    http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6657180

How can we build a bridge to a group that doesn't know the Lord? T.D. Jakes doesn't believe in the Trinity and has never experienced the grace of God. How are we to build a bridge to such a modern day heretic?

I think the Gaithers came to the Bi-Lo Center, a big arena-type thing in my home town, Greenville, SC, a couple months ago. I never was really intrested in their music, but thanks for the warning anyway!

    Hey, I'm in Taylors/Greenville, SC myself. :)

My parents both went to the Gaither's singing at the Bi-Lo center. Though they weren't saved at the time (thought they both were), they had enough wisdom about them to leave with the "comedian" (Lourey, sp?) got up on the piano and started dancing like Elvis, etc. It made my parents sick so they left.

I remember the Gaithers out of Moody Bible Institute a good many years ago. I guess they are going the way of the church to-day. It is a sad commentary, I fear.

    Cheers,

Before you slander a brother, you should check your information. The truth is not hard to find, assuming you are interested in the truth.

T.D. Jakes in quoted in Christianity Today:

"My views on the Godhead are from 1 John 5:7-8, "For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one." (NKJV)
I believe in one God who is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I believe these three have distinct and separate functions—so separate that each has individual attributes, yet are one. I do not believe in three Gods."

I would read what T.D. Jakes says in that article very carefully, reading between the lines. He, like a good politician, neither directly confirms or denies many of his controversial doctrines. How does that compare with what is said here:

As for the statement above, Jakes is wrong... they do now have "individual attributes"

As for the Gaithers...this doesn't change my mind about them.

Actually, this is one of those rare occasions when spoudazo is right. Jakes is a modalist who denies the Trinity.

I don't support everything AOMin does, but here is a good webcast about T.D. Jakes,

(need Real Player *shudders* or you can install "Real Playe Alternative," just google it).

    guitarpreacher quotes T. D. Jakes:

I believe in one God who is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I believe these three have distinct and separate functions—so separate that each has individual attributes, yet are one. I do not believe in three Gods."

If Jakes is Trinitarian like the rest of us, why couldn't he affirm the traditional Trinitarian language of "one God in three persons, co-equal and co-eternal"? Doesn't this statement sound like he's trying to sound Trinitarian without actually affirming anything that makes God a trinity?

If you listen to that webcast from AOMin I linked you to, you'll see Jakes says the Trinity isn't an essential belief to be saved/a Christian!

    Is it?

I'm not saying its unimportant, but I would say that there will probably be many in heaven who could not on earth understand or explain the concept of the trinity.

Thankfully, God isn't giving out doctrine entrance exams at the gate.

I thinks ya'll being a bit tough on brother Jakes without proof. You keep saying what he believes but the one actual quote from him proves contrary.

I'm so glad that we Christians have more and more to protest and boycott...not like people are dying and going to hell all around us, right?

Do a google search on him and you will find a wealth of documented evidence that is already provided for you. Not only does he deny the trinity there is the question of whether or not he carries on the belief that baptism is necessary for salvation--baptismal regeneration--another heresy. His background is Oneness Pentecostal (a cult), and he hasn't strayed far from its beliefs.

Protest? False teachers are leading people to hell, to a false hope, and to a false gospel.

I'm guessing Paul didn't get it either in Galatians 1:6-9?
Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Perhaps if the Holy Spirit didn't illuminate things to the soul, then they'd have an excuse.

    YES....Beware of the Gaithers.

Gloria yelled "hey moved your truck" at me once. And, I saw Bill pick his nose at local Mexican resturant.
