Personally I use web based resourses, Bible Gateway and Online Parallel Bible.

I have e-sword installed on my computer, but really don't like it. That may just be the fact that I havn't played with it much, but I have found it difficult to read and to navigate.

It all comes down to what we get used to.

I have like the ones that I don't have to be connected to the net to use...

for instance, since I have e-sword on the church's laptop, we use it on Sunday nights...

Just project it on the screen, and while we are doing verse by verse Bible Study, we have all the dictionaries we need, and all the commentaries also...Not to mention I have over 40 different versions at my fingertips...

We are working our way through Proverbs now, but before, sometimes I would let them know on Sunday morning to have a Bible question ready to answer on that night, and we would just all dive into the scriptures when someone asked a question...
I would have no idea what to expect... but it was adventurous.

Some call me dangerous, but if someone needs something answered, we needed to answer it... from the Bible...

So we would dive into the question, look it up in e-sword, look up words in the Greek, in the other dictionaries, read what great minds that have went before us had to say about that verse, and then we would come to a conclusion.... All by using e-sword in Sunday night Bible study.

Oh, and since you can make as many copies of e-sword to give away as you want, anyone in our church that wants it can readily have it... all they have to do is ask for it.

Hey, there's an idea for a Christmas present!!!!

It seems like many like E-sword. To bad I can not use it since I have declared my home a windows free zone.

But I really like accordance on my mac, so it may not be so bad after all.

I do the same, except there have been times I was not able to asnwer the question on the spot. I'm not too proud, I tell them I will bring the answer to the next class. I was surprised to learn some preachers don't allow questions. They come with a prepared lesson and that's all you get...

You know, I kinda enjoy it when they put me on the spot, and I can't answer them... It gives me a chance to teach them how to search for the answer... the way I search....

And since E-sword is on the wall, we dive into it...

I remember growing up, watching my dad and a preacher friend of his, study the bible together at our home.. (I was always involved in the discussions somehow)

My dad's friend would come up, and they would start discussing a Bible Scripture, or a question someone had asked one of them...

Out came the concordances, Naves Topical Bible, Jamison, Faucett,Brown commentary... and maybe some other commentaries from Ironside, or J. R. Rice, a couple Bible dictionaries... Our table and countertops were covered with books, while we were looking for the answer.... And I named those, because that was all my dad could afford... He didn't even have a Strongs Concordance... He always wanted one, but never had the extra cash to get it....

I learned how to search the scriptures this way....
Today, E-sword has most all we had... (no J. R. Rice, or Ironside) But they may be coming.. (you can also join a yahoo e-sword group, and find other books that you can download into e-sword....)

My e-sword is growing each week with a new resource...

Anyway, I can take what I learned back then, and apply it in a church setting, teaching people how to search the scriptures...

And isn't that better than just throwing out Pat answers to their questions?

I think so. So I value their stumping questions...
I like the investigating adventure, and they learn how to use the tools of the trade...

I have gone from a million.....then went to E-Sword, then to Theopolis, to iLumina, and finally settle on eBible. I feel this has the best search engine of all the ones I have tried....and I have tried all on the list and then some!

I am now looking at the Logos Scholar set...(the makers of the LLS engine that eBible uses)....but the price is a big OUCH!

Another great E-sword option is a macro which lets you search, copy, and insert passges write into a word doc. If you just type the reference in the traditional format (John 3:16), highlight it, and click a button in your word toolbar it will insert it.

Much less Yen than earlier in the year I'll bet.

When most Bible programs are purchased you get what is offered and know that the program won’t change over the years, except perhaps for an infrequent book addition.

Libronix, while expensive, is constantly expanding its capabilities.
It is not a simple bible program but a serious research tool that can be used by ‘everyday bible students’ as well as by serious researchers.

Libronix (Logos) offers a powerful Bible program combined with a library system.
Libronix offers the latest books and commentaries as well as many older ones.
Without exaggerating, it has by far the most resources of any other program…and it’s quickly growing larger.
Some of the great books of past ages can be found for free on the internet but when integrated into Libronix's format, the search capabilities helps to them up for serious research.

The language program in Libronix allows you to perform original language searches (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Coptic, Latin, even Ugaritic) in multiple books, lexicons, grammars, very quickly with just the click of the mouse.
You can click on a word your favorite version and discover the original language word, how many times (and where) it is used and find it is defined in various lexicons.
Searches can either be simple ‘original language’ word searches or more complicated syntactic word studies (as John noted).

Years ago, after researching Bible programs, I purchased Libronix on Ebay.
I’ve upgraded it as I went, when titles or resources appeal to me.
There are so many products offered you have to be choosey.
I have found that hard copies of books are much more pleasurable for me to read or meditate over.
But when it comes time to do serious research, a computerized book is unmatched.
Therefore many of the new titles offered weekly by Libronix I don’t purchase.
But titles that help in research, such as exegetical commentaries, original language texts, some modern grammars (particularly Hebrew for me)…those titles that I can use, I add to my collection.
Even among these you need to be choosey, there are just so many.

Libronix is not slanted toward a particular belief system; Baptists, Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostals, why even Jewish researches can find plenty of resources to aid them in their study.

I would suggest that the most useful and economical program you should purchase would be the Scholar’s Library ($600+) but I still salivate over some of the products in the Silver and Gold versions.

    Product comparison chart [LINK]

I even hear that they have a Window's free version Mac Bible [LINK] but I'm not familiar with it.

Everything Deacon said, plus this. With my eBible Deluxe Edition 2.1c program I can upgrade the Libronix engine to the newest 3.x one, and get all the features of that ($5 +S&H for the DVD that also updates all of your unlocked books). But that is not all.

I just love the "web page" interface that eBible uses, and I can also add the collections that the Logos system uses. I am saving now for the Early Church Fathers CD, and I look forward to have the search capability's to use with this huge collection. I mean, I only paid $30 for 2 copy's at a salvage store, brand new. So a large investment into it is not that bad IMHO.

I myself would also rather sit down with a paper book 90% of the time, but I always think of questions when I read the Bible, and having such a powerful program available makes sitting for hours in front of a monitor worth it! But the
Scholar's Library: Gold - Logos Bible Software 3
version from Logos is a major item on my Christmas list!:praying:

Under the commentary section...The right side of the screen.. you will see a tab called, "topic notes"... Click on it...

At the bottom of that window, you will see a smaller one line window, click the arrow to the right of that. It will open up with many other resources, scroll down until you see the book... click on it...

Then at the top of that window, right above the text will be another field, to change chapters in...

There is a tutorial somewhere on e-sword.net...

There are many, many other resources you can download from the net...

If you search the net for a file, and it has the ending, .bbl it is a Bible resource... if it has .DCT it is a dictionary, it if has .top it is a book, or resource under topic notes... if it is .CMT, it is a commentary...

You can manually put these into the e-sword program...
    download them to your desktop,
(Unzip them to your desktop, if need be..)
Then go to program files, and open the e-sword program, and click and drag the file from your desktop to the program, when the program opens the next time, the new file will open in the right spot.

A quick search for "e-sword modules" will give you plenty things to choose from...
    Some free, some not.
