    Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
    13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12-13)
    --To work out means to carry out to its full completion. It has to do with sanctification, not justification. Verse 13 clarifies it even more. As we yield ourselves to God, He works in us to will and to do of His good pleasure. We are working out our own salvation, bringing it into maturity or completion, as we yield to him. The Calvinist would put the emphasis on we are allowing God to work out our salvation. That is true, providing we yield ourselves to Him.

    Believers will have doubts when they wander away from the Word, its promises, God's will for their lives, their relationship with Christ, etc. It is sin that separates us from God. The first epistle of John was written to assure us how we can know that we are saved. What are the assurances that a saved person has. That is why the word "know" is a key word in the epistle.

    What are you talking about!? When did I ever say that you are not saved? When did I say anyone was sinless? Are you related to Ann? Perhaps her brother or something?

    Also Romans 7 is dealing with a Jew who was trying to satisfy the law. Romans 8 is tell him how to be free from that battle with the law. You still did not click on that link did you?

    Winn you are using sight examples against faith examples and they do not work. You saw your friend drive off, and you see the Doctor, and by the way just because you allow them to carry out what you mentioned does not mean you trust them without a doubt. You may worry about the neighbor wrecking your car and the Doc making a mistake.

    Also the only way to have biblical assurance is for God Himself to give it through the Spirit and He only does that to those who are doing what He says.

    1 John 2:3-6 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
    He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
    But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
    He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

    1 John 3:7-10 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth (practices) righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
    He that committeth (practices) sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
    Whosoever is born of God doth not commit (practice) sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot (practice) sin, because he is born of God.
    In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not (practice) righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

    Then finally the knowing is sealed in assurance by the Spirit and He only does it if the person is doing what it mentioned above;
    Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

    Knowing we are saved is not self generated. We do not have assurance because we believe in Jesus. Unless it comes from the Spirit because of all the things mentioned it is a false assurance like those of Matt 5.

    Are you dense? You asked if fear was a sin.
