Biden’s Response on Same-Sex Marriage at Odds with Obama Record

    Friday, October 03, 2008
    By Pete Winn, Senior Writer/Editor

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden(CNSNews.com) – Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) placed himself and his running mate, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), firmly on record in Thursday night’s vice presidential debate as opposing same-sex marriage. But that’s not what Obama’s statements and action on the issue reveal.

In response to a direct question from debate moderator Gwen Ifill – “Do you support gay marriage?” Biden answered, “No.”

He added: “(Neither) Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage. We do not support that. That is basically the decision to be able to, to be left to faiths and people who practice their faiths, the determination what you call it.”

But that appears to contradict statements Obama has made in support of efforts by homosexual activists trying to redefine marriage, and in opposition to efforts to protect marriage as it has always been defined: the union of one man and one woman.

Have you seen a source where Obama seeks to redefine marriage?

No he hasn't made such a direct statement but he does support states doing so if they so choose.

Well, that does not conflict with what Biden said.

Obama nor Biden have the courage to come right out and say so. As is common with the liberal agenda they are working to back door this issue without being blatant. If states recognize homose#ual marriages then there is question as to whether other states should be forced to recognize those marriages. They can play all the word games they want but the effect is still the same. And it is ungodly.

You are conjecturing based on a pre-conceived bias.

BTW, do you not believe in state's rights in this area?

So you say. Not much there. If you actually study his position you would know rather than being quick to defend. I do hold to states rights. So much so that no state decisions should be imposed on another.

It ought to be simple than to prove to me that Obama favours a redefinition of marriage and anyone who beleives in states right should give the states the right to do as they wish in this issue.

Now, if we are going to debate enforcement of these state laws on other states I will agree with you.

Would like to see a source for that one if it is available please.

I though the issue here was whether or not Biden and Obama agree on redefining marriage. It appears they do.

This isn't true, Obama support civil unions which is not the same as marriage and is also similar to what Palin said she supports.

Doesn't sound like Obama and Biden disagree, does it?
