Did Jesus not use real wine at the Last Supper? I was under the impression that he did.

I was raised to believe that alcohol in moderation is okay; to drink excessively is a sin.

It depends on who you ask, Priscilla.

I say yes, he did because the Bible states such, and the Jews have always used real wine at the passover.

Also, considering that fresh juice is what has leavening, not alcoholic wine, plus the fact that fresh juice would not be available all year round, but had to be preserved some way, all leads me to the conclusion that wine is indeed what was used.

Does anyone know of a synagogue or a Jewish family that doesn't use alcoholic wine at the passover supper?

That's why a qualification for a bishop/elder is not to be given to much wine. i.e. in excess.

    Bro. James:

Thanks for your answer. I too thought that the Jews used real wine at the passover meal.

Having been raised as a Catholic, real wine was always used at communion. Now, in the Baptist church we attend, they use grape juice.

I really don't have a problem either way, but the various reasons for both positions are interesting.

    God Bless!

Basically, an Arminian believes that each and every person on earth gets to decide whether or not they want to accept Christ and go to heaven, whereas a Clavinist, basically, believes that only a certain number are eligible to go to heaven and they are chosen based on God's divine will and grace rather than on what man thinks or wants.

These two would IMO be what a strict Arminian or Calvinist believes on the subject.

I had to answer yes to question 1, simply because Jeanne likes to wear hats. She is rarely without one, including wearing ball caps around the house.

Not being married, headcovering question doesn't apply, but if I was married, I would say yes, my wife would be wearing a headcovering.

    You were raised right.
An interesting thing to do is take a bible program on your computer and do a search for "wine"
It is so clear in verse after verse that the abuse of wine is wrong but the moderate use is a GOOD thing in its time....just like a lot of other things that I could mention here :)

A few notes from my response,

I listed yes on the KJV but only because I believe it is the best one for use in our day here in our society.
I believe that the KJV is the preserved word of God but it isn't the only thing in the world that can be used. (other countries don't need to translate from the KJV)

I have never used real wine for the Lord's Supper but I do believe that it is the proper way of doing things.
I also believe that wine is a sign of God's blessing on a nation and that those that say it is wrong are guilty of "making right to be wrong etc...I don't drink personally but I think that those they say it is absolutely wrong are either showing a lack of Biblical understanding or they just have a bias.

Ok..I am glad that the word was "Calvanistic" I am very much Calvanistic but I wouldn't say "Calvanist" being that there is a lot of disagreement as to what all that means and I have not studied Calvan so I am not sure how much I would line up with him.

As for music, all music was "contemporary" at one time. In Church I (I am the music director) mostly pick out good meaningful choruses no matter when they were written and I pick out for the main worship hymns, mostly older one by Watts, Wesley etc. I do try to take everything a song at a time though and not reject OR accept based upon age or genre alone.

As for women in the Church, no man has any authority over a woman except her OWN husband according to the Bible. Also, no woman has any place in leader ship over a man.
However the older ladies are to teach the younger ladies, thus there is some place for female leadership in the Church, but only to the other, younger ladies.

Hopefully this post doesn't get into an argument but it interesting to see where people stand.

In some countries, only married women wear headcoverings in church.

    Praise God for marriage!

I didn't think the women deacons and the alcohol issue would be so close.
