    Su Wei,

I can function in around a half dozen languages. I could function in a half dozen more languages. And I know limited vocabulary in about a half dozen more.

Most of it I have taught myself. You should hear me speak english ... ;o)

I lived in Texas and South Florida, so I had to become fluent in Spanish.

I speak French pretty well, but not perfectly.

My grandmother taught Latin, so I learned Latin.

I know a little Polish and Yiddish (they're very similar. What isn't the same is similar enough to figure out easily.)

Learned Greek and Hebrew in seminary.

In the summer of 1980, I spent six weeks in what was then West Germany, so I attempted to learn German. Got "proficient" enough to totally butcher any conversation I had. The funny thing was, if you made an attempt to use German, however badly, if whomever you were talking to knew English, they'd speak to you in English. I don't think I've tried to speak in German since then.

I am slowly learning Spanish, but on my bucket list is to learn French so when I head over to France to someday cheer on the Tour de France riders, I'll be able to do it in French and English.

    :)

I've studied (some more and some less) five languages, but can't speak one all that well!

What goes around comes around. :)

I speak and read Japanese fluently, teach koine Greek, read a little Chinese (since I can read Japanese), have also studied Latin and Hebrew.
