This is very sad news but people should be made aware of this, and imo, preachers should warn their flocks.

The Billy Graham store is selling the Clear Word Bible, which is an SDA paraphrase that alters theology to suit their views. The store is also selling 266 items published by the SDA Church-owned Review & Herald Publishing Association, and 38 items by Autumn House Publishing (a division of Review & Herald).

They also sell "The Message" which, in my opinion, is just as bad. Paraphrase "Bibles" are very much second class Bibles. There are some very good translations on the market today (NASB, NKJV, etc) so there is no need for these paraphrases (SDA or otherwise).

As much as I dislike "The Message," I can't fault them for selling that. Any store selling Bibles would be expected to sell it. And as much as I find problems with some of the paraphrases in "The Message," I find it more abhorrent that they sell this SDA "Bible" and so many SDA materials.

At least Christians can evaluate "The Message" for themselves, and in many cases, may have heard about its problems. But they are sitting ducks for SDA materials, not realizing that company is an SDA company.

The SDA is very sneaky because it likes to hide who it is. The SDA, or individuals/organizations who are connected to the SDA, will offer conferences on prophecy and not admit their connection to the SDA, sometimes even denying it. TV shows such as "Amazing Facts" is a good example. Another one, "It is Written," was actually on the So Baptist TV channel (not sure if it still is).

If Baptists are easy prey for Mormons, as apparently they have been, then they are really big targets for the SDA.

And don't forget all the hoopla when Walter Martin declined to classify SDA as a cult in Kindom of the Cults. He did put an essay in the book about them but fell short of calling them a cult. Billy Graham is just following in that vain.

How disappointing. Is there anyone we can trust these days?

Is there anyone perfect who can be trusted to be perfect other then Jesus? If not we're going to have to accept that people are not perfect, and I'm not talking about billy graham, but everyone who has one little thing wrong with them and gets bashed for it. (which of course excludes denying Jesus or something really major thats necessary to christianity)

One thing that should be pointed out. Billy Graham is 91 and has had health issues. I seriously doubt that he was involved in or knows about this decision. I don't know who is actually running the retail end of this business, but I am certain it is not him.

Of course this fact doesn't make it any less wrong, and I am glad for the warning. But I just wanted to point out it is obviously not Billy Graham the man doing this.

It is quite difficult to access that page from the bookstore homepage.
It may just be a software glitch, so let's not jump to conclusions.

This was kind of my thought, making it an error, but maybe not even his error. I doubt he runs any of it at his age and bad health. Somebody though seems pretty irresponsible. But we don't know id this an actual endorsement of mormonism or not.

Another thought. I wonder if this might just be an oversight. Many web "stores" are set up where they just mirror the inventory of the wholesaler that he store buys from. They customize it with their name and the markup desired on the merchandise. This could have been set up this way and nobody thought something like this was included in the inventory field they selected.

I would be curious of their response if anyone felt compelled to bring it to their attention.

Only slightly off topic - remember the "only" position (that the KJV whatever revision is the only true Word of God) was started in the 7th Day Adventist group and only after that issue waned did some Baptists pick it up and run with it. The first Baptist writers never mentioned where they stole the idea from (knowing the uproar that would come from them adopting an SDA position).

You would think condemning the SDA would also be anathema to those whose theology is so indebted to the SDA.

I agree with this. I was speaking with his daughter Anne a couple of months ago and he's not been in good health at all so I'm sure that this has been beyond his knowledge. He cannot see well anymore - but he still plans to do one more crusade, if you can believe it. He still has a heart to reach people - but I don't know that his body will allow it. She said that just that day, he got up out of bed on his own which he hasn't done in a long while. We can pray for him, I know that much. His wife's death devastated him completely.

I thought the same thing. I did not start this thread to be critical of the man and evangelist, Billy Graham, or even to discuss him, but to let people be wary of all Christian bookstores, and this one. I can't help it that the store is named for him and has these books. Graham is entirely irrelevant here, imo.

I posted this for informational purposes (and maybe to discuss why Christian bookstores have so many bad books) but not to bash Billy Graham.

I believe that Martin or one of his associates later said that he had not been presented with the pertinent information and that the SDA had misled them. This is typical of the SDA. Same thing happened with some Christians who were taking the word of Mormons at BYU about their faith instead of considering the official teachings of the LSD church.

This is why it's so important to know the official teachings and not what some SDA people may say it is.

I sent feedback to the online store and if and when I get a response, I will post it here to let you know.

So far, I just got the generic email reply thanking me for my feedback and how they always consider feedback and appreciate my comments, etc., etc.

This is probably all I will hear from them.

I don't believe that Billy Graham is much involved with anything with BGEA ... I think he shows up for a thing here and there, but his son Franklin is in charge of day by day...

I did. See my comments above.

Besides, this was not a thread to complain. I posted the info as a warning.

This is not a thread about Billy Graham, which I also said above. Please, no comments about Graham. It's about this Christian bookstore selling all this bad stuff.

No - he's barely able to get out of bed, according to his daughter Anne.
