Thank you for your kind words Brother ShannonL.

A short essay on 'liberal' - the direction:

'Liberal' and 'conservative' can be not only an
absolute position on a spectrum, but can also be
    a direction as well.

Since the French parliments of the 17th
Century (1601-1700), 'liberal' as been denoted
'the left' and 'conservative' as 'the right'
(that is how it was seen by the chair of
the French parliment). Of course, the terms
'left' and 'right' are easier to use as directions
    then are 'liberal' and 'conservative'.

Although i suppose some will use 'moderate' as
'in the middle', that designative as a relative
position is not used as much as 'moderate' is used
to denote a middle absolute position.

    - - - - Ed's neo-(American political spectrum):

From the left to the right (the fartherst left cannot
be distinguished from the furtherest right - think of
them as the same place on a circle.

    hyper-liberal
    liberal Liberal
    moderate Liberal
    conservative Liberal
    liberal Democrat
    moderate Democrat
    conservative Democrat
    liberal Moderate
    moderate Moderate
    conservative Moderate
    liberal Republican
    moderate Republican
    conservative Republican
    liberal Conservative
    moderate Conservative
    conservative Conservative
    hyper-conservative (AKA: knee-jerk Reactionary [IMG] )

Can you see what a diservice a hyper-Conservative does
when they lable a conservative Conservative
    as a 'Moderate' or 'Liberal'

This chart also shows how the Democrats and Republicans
have to fight over Moderates to get enough votes to
    get elected.

These categories can then be subdivided and subdivided until each person is uniquely identified and you are left with only one hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper...hyper conservative and only one hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper-hyper...hyper liberal.

Without sufficient definitions these terms are meaningless anyway. Without definitions all words are meaningless. More, please...

Recognizing location on the religious spectrum #46:

Have you read a book (other than educational
    or work related)?

    arch-conservative - no
conservative - yes, but only 1
    moderate - yes, a few
    liberal - yes, many

    ;)

i am a fundamentalist, but not a KJVO or a cessationist per se. i think spiritual gifts are real, but not as defined by the charasmatic movement. Like the Gift of tongues, the word for tongue means either a real tongue, something that looks like a tongues, or a KNOWN dialect of language. i had a friend spend two years in Tialand and Laos as a missionary, he "learned" the Tai language as well as many dialects (spoken in the mountians) ib three days. as he says it was like God took the corks out of my ears, and i could understand, then i spoke and my tongue was untied and out came tia.

i think this is an accurate description of tongues.......

I consider myself to be conservative, i vote republican for the most part, but would vote for Zell Miller as a democrat because he believes as i do. I do not hate anyone, but i do hate their agendas (gays, tree huggers, and God haters).

But i live in texas and even the dem are "conservative" (for the most part). heck in my town of 100000+ you can't get an abortion, gotta travel 150+ mile for that.

and i am never not reading a book, usually three at a time (not at once), one for pleasure, one for history, and one for theology.

right now for fun: greg bear's EON....great book have read it lots of times

right now for history: Civilization Past and Present (third edition), college level text book

right now for theology: Calvin's Treasties on Theology......not very exciting though, most is common sense

oh and i am (every day) reading my BIBLE. (could i count the Bible as 66books) lol

i usually reserve "liberal" for baby killers, and God Haters.

    thankyou and God Bless

Can someone be more fundamental than fundamentalist Christians?
    More conservative than conservative Christians?
    More moderate than moderate Christians?
And more liberal than liberal Christians?

I believe Jesus was all those things.

I think I missed something. Just exactly how was Jesus a liberal Christian?

Not always. I think some liberal positions are decidedly misogynistic.

The Jesus of conservatives was not liberal. The Jesus of liberals was not conservative.

What was the Jesus of the bible like?

Sounds like two different Jesuses to me.

He was unique. He told the truth without shading it to fit any label, something most people who "try" to be conservative or liberal fail to do. It didn't matter if it sounded one way or the other. He wasn't worried about whether or not what he was saying could be taken the wrong way.

It sounds like you are trying to do exactly what you said Jesus didn't do. Try to fit a preconcieved idea of what Jesus should be like.

I agree with you about those characteristics of Jesus. But what about the characteristics which Jesus also displayed that were held in tension to speaking the truth without concern for misinterpretation.

Frustration, sympathy and explanation for the disciples when they misunderstood. Compassion and healing when needy crowds came who were often more interested in their personal welfare than understanding his doctrines or giving the sacrifices needed to become his follower. Grace and gentleness to condemned sinners brought before him. Challenging and loving the Jewish religious elite like Nicodemus and the rich young ruler who humbly came to ask him about eternal life. Humility and servanthood throughout his ministry.

    Mat 5:11 (KJV1611):

Blessed are ye, when men shall reuile you,
and persecute you, and shal say all manner of euill
against you falsly for my sake.

    Mat 5:11 (Ed's paraphrase 2005):

Blessed are ye, when men shall label you,
and persecute you, and shal say all manner of euill
against you falsly for my sake.

The 'revile' i've changed to 'label' is
    Strong's G3679:

    G3679
    ὀνειδέζω
    oneidezō
    on-i-did'-zo
From G3681; to defame, that is, rail at, chide,
taunt: - cast in teeth, (suffer) reproach,
    revile, upbraid.
