" After the conference, Barr's political adviser Russ Verney told me that Barr had tested the waters with an exploratory committee because he didn't want to run if he couldn't win. "There are substantial risks," Verney said. "We're talking about alienating life-long friends. We're talking about putting your credibility on the line." "

He might as well declare for the NBA draft as well, as long as he's living in the dream world.

    Barr has ZERO chance.

Are you going to be switching over to support Barr now or are you sticking with Obama?

If Senator Obama wants to keep my support then he will have to tone down his anti-oil company rhetoric. He has ramped this up lately and it is not sitting well with me.

Regardless of who I vote for I don't want Senator McCain to win.

Also, I had no idea that someone as well qualified as Bob Barr would seek the LP nomination. It surprised just as Ron Paul entering the GOP race did.

I think for 2012 I am going to just sit on my hands until after all of the conventions are held before I say yea or nay about any candidate on this board.

Obama's rhetoric on this issue must be burning you, too. Typical Washington-score cheap points by appealing to logical fallacies and the unthinking.

Like I said in another thread unfair criticism of the oil industry(there is fair criticism such as using profits to buy back stock instead of in the business itself) is what eventually cost President Carter my support of him after I had worked on his behalf in the 1976 campaign.

Through the Lord's blessing everything I have in a material way has come from employment in the oil industry - my dad's 34 years with an oil company and my 30 years with an oil company come June 1.

Since you're a libertarian (supposedly), that must mean you'll be supporting Barr now, doesn't it? ;)

But he can get a liberal democrat elected.

As opposed to a liberal republican.

I'm not buying the guilt trip, carpro. If the repubs wanted my vote, they'd nominate somebody worthy of it.

IMHO, this is why we're in the mess we are today; and I plead total guilt, so I can say it.

We have voted for the lesser of 2 evils for so long, that the baseline is continually moving leftward, so now look what we have for a choice!

I'm to the poit that I just may write in my own name so I can say I voted!

I'm with Bro Curtis; I'm not buying the guilt trip anymore if my principles are the ones steadily compromised.

I will answer to God for my vote, not the ever more liberalized GOP.

You got that right Curtis. I will not vote for McCain. Hillery or Obama might do more damage to the country short term but in the long run McCain will do more by moving us further and further left.

    Barr's got my vote.

That's right. I don't like either dem, but would rather see either one of them win over McCain.

I'm not happy about any of the choices of any of the parties - large or small - and don't have a candiate that truly advocates what I think we need.

    No selling necessary.

    It's just a solid fact.

Barr cannot win, but he can split the conservative and the republican vote resulting in a liberal democrat being elected.

I don't care how you feel about it. Do you believe it? I suspect you do.

    Like I said...fact.
