    Bolton maturity

I think Bolton is a mistake but he could repent
and turn it around while he is in his recess
appointment or be a part of something more cynical
as reform is really code word for destruction of
the U.N. which would probably make a majority on
this board happy...and that segues into my salient
    point.

I see his rant and it will be applauded by most
here, but it is arrogant and undiplomatic , spiritually speaking the attributes of satan in
Isaiah is pride, arrogance, and selfishness in
other words "pride goes before a fall" and contrast that to the "humble will be exalted" does
    not jive.

Something cynical is at work here and we can applaud when the United Nations leaves our shores
but then what...the world gets divided up and in
shadows regions and countries will plot our
destruction because dialogue and diplomacy was
given the curb...because of people like John
Bolton who really does not believe in the United
Nations and does not care if it exists or does
    not exist.

The arrogance of "my way or the highway" can work
while we are on top of the hill but it sows seeds
of resentment and people will rejoice from that
arrogance when they see a bully take a fall..again back to my salient point...the humble
    will be exalted.

Bolton if he does not repent is a mistake.imho

Major conflagrations have been averted because
of the United Nations if we are going to reform
it ..I suggest Christian humility ..not arrogance.

Let's face it Bolton is completely unsuitable for this job or any other diplomatic function. That he sees the UN as nothing but a US foreign policy tool is a perfectly valid (if a little arrogant) point of view.
Screaming that view from the rooftops however is unacceptable behaviour for the holder of any diplomatic office, especially that of the US representative to the UN.

I think I'm going to really like Bolton.

He is anabashedly pro American and will look out for our interests first and that is exactly what every American diplomat should do.

    [IMG] Thanks for the video.

Except that by screaming from the rooftops that he only cared for the UN as a vehicle for US interests he has made it a lot harder for himself to actually use the UN as a vehicle for US interests.
As a diplomat the guy is incompetent.

    From a non-partisan view:

I fail to see why he's ill-suited for the job. His qualification appear solid. I would have that that' if he were so clearly ill-suited, the Senate would have voted him down rather promptly while they were in session, which would have been their right. But they chose instead to close their session without voting on the issue.

    Am I missing something here??

I, for one, LOVE the fact that an anti-U.N. dude is the ambassador to the U.N. Should be a fun tenure to watch.

Is there a more irrelevant orginization than the U.N. right now ? Could anyone give me list of recent successes ?

    Hmmm...

    PETA.
    The Flat Earth Society.
    The American Guild of Carilloneurs.

Okay, that was a mean thing to say about the carilloneurs.

The main problem seems to be that he is pro-American and doesn't mind saying so.

Bolton has come out a couple of times saying that the UN only truly exists (in a significant capacity) as an occasional tool of the US. This may be true, but it after making that statement out loud he will have a very hard time putting that 'tool' to good use.

Maybe, maybe not. The UN has had serious corruption issues as of late, and many countries are losing faith in her. Having someone go into the UN who is pragmatic of that same body has some potentially beneficial effects, not just for the US, but for all the members of the UN.

None of the other UN delegates is going to trust him. Including the honest ones, especially the honest ones. He will have great difficulty getting anything done.

Since the UN is not exactly the model organization for trustworthiness, I'm sure that trust is the last thing on Bolton's mind.

But using it for the benefit of the US is. And he has shot himself in the foot with those statements.

There is no country that is a member of the U.N that does not try to use it to their advantage or benefit. None.

    Glad to be back [IMG]
Every country in the UN uses the UN for their benefit. And everyone knows that the UN would fold in upon itself were it not for the US participation. That's neither good nor bad. It just is.
