I was visiting Grandma Botwinick today and found out some new information about my family tree. As most of you might know, I am distantly related to the Russian World Champion Chess Player, Michael Botwinick. Well, I found out that I am related to another famous person whose music I have admired for years. It turns out that my Great Grandmother Ann Stern Botwinick's brother was none other than the one, the only, the late, great violinist, Issac Stern. In case you are wondering, he is the violin soloist in "Fiddler on the Roof". Kinda neat, huh? Grandma says that is where I must have got my musical talent from. It does make me wonder about that old, antique violin my grandfather gave me before he died though. Could there possibly be a connection? [IMG]

Well, that sure is neat! Isn't it great to find out about our roots---where we came from? [IMG]

Me, I'm related to Old Stonewall Jackson himself. Great God fearing General of the Confederacy! [IMG]

Wouldn't you like to know about every relative you ever had all the way back to the beginning?

I would. Even would take the bad with the good and the ugly! Just to know. Geneology is really fascinating.

So, get busy, Joseph, practicing your music! You may end up being famous someday, too, like Isaac! And we can all say we knew you when..... :D [IMG]

I actually enjoy teaching band too much to get too deep into performing. It is just not the kinda life I really want. I might do some small things, but have no aspirations to be famous; except, of course, if one of my students ends up being famous and lists me as their inspiration. That would be nice. I think Stonewall Jackson is in my roots, too. My mother is a Jackson.

JoJo, how does that put you up to being related to Howard Stern? :D [IMG]

Hmmm Joseph. Interesting! I'll have to pull out mine and recheck some stuff now. [IMG] Oddly enough my brother was given an old violen as a gift from my grandparents too.

I love genealogy. I have researched both sides of my family back several generations. So far, I wasn't related to anyone famous. I come from a long line of share croppers and ruffians who always seemed to get themselves killed. The one big claim to fame in our family is that my great great Uncle Eli was the last living Confederate soldier of Louisianna.

It's great to visit BaptistBoard again. I have been so busy with church and trying to get my ministry off the ground. I have a great church that is backing me up and looking to bring those lost into the family of the Lord. Will try to visit more often. Merry Christmas and God Bless.

I have done genealogy for almost 30 years. Guess what?
I am realated to absoutly no one that is famous.
A bank robber, but a poor one at that, because he wasn't famous.
A lot of dirt farmers but poor ones.
The most famous person that I am related to is my grandson. He is only famous in Buffalo because he has sooo many names that it tickles people.

Wisdomseeker, try finding genealogy books on the subject of your distant relatives.

I have a book that traces my grandmother's family back to English royalty.

Back to King Edward I, England. He is documented, in many places, as being descended from Charlemagne.

He was descended from Mohammed and also Ceasar Augustus.

It is very interesting to find that I can trace my family back for thousands of years.

Anyone who does genealogy research should know that, like me, you get hooked on it rather easily.

As for more recent famous relatives, none come to mind except a few who served in the first Continental Congress and the House of Burgess.

God Bless and Merry Christmas. Bro. James [IMG] [IMG]

I have been interested in genealogy and have studied the family tree since I was in high school - found out that I'm slightly related to most all of my ancestors! :D

Seriously, it is a fun and interesting study. Unfortunately, haven't found any famous people like some of you name-droppers. ;) I have a cousin who is related to Abraham Lincoln's wife's family, the Todds. Does that count??

I decided last night that I would edit out the boastful posting of my lineage as it showed my lack of humility. (Unfortunately, I was unable to access the site) Sometimes it does make one feel better about ones own lack of noteworthiness to share one's breeding and famous ancestry. It is also wonderous to understand where certain family traits come from. But sharing of this information by oneself is often mistaken for pride. For this, I appologize.

WisdomSeeker, I apologize. I was only joking. I think it's interesting to find out to whom people are related.

rlvaughn, Thank you, but your appology is unnecessary... you were just stating out loud, what I already felt about my post. If it makes you feel any better, I editted my post prior to reading yours. ;)

My oldest daughter and mom-in-law are geneo freaks. They know about family more that I was told. I found out that I don't have German on my moms side, they just wanted to be German instead of Polish. And on Justifieds side, his family was so tied into the mafia, that they have very little info on themselves before they came to the US [IMG]
