SAO PAULO, Brazil - Landless farmers invaded a mine, a bank and other corporate property in Brazil on Wednesday to protest the impact of big companies on the poor and President Bush's visit to Latin America's largest nation.

Protesters, most of them women from the Via Campesina farmworkers movement, briefly shut down an iron ore mine, invaded an ethanol distillery and took over the Rio de Janeiro offices of Brazil's National Development Bank on the eve of Bush's visit.

Fresh graffiti reading "Get Out, Bush! Assassin!" in bright red letters popped up along busy highways near the locations in Sao Paulo where Bush will appear as he kicks off a five-nation Latin American tour.

Thousands protest Bush at Americas summit

MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (Reuters) - Anti-U.S. demonstrations at the Americas Summit turned violent on Friday as protesters set fire to a bank, looted stores and battled riot police blocks from a luxury hotel where U.S. President George W. Bush met with regional leaders.

The violence came hours after tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets shouting "Get out Bush!" in a peaceful protest against the U.S. leader, who is unpopular among many Latin Americans who oppose the Iraq war and his push for a regional free trade deal.

But as the leaders' summit opened, several hundred protesters shattered storefronts and fought pitched street battles with riot police, who responded by firing tear gas and rubber bullets.

I would be willing to bet that well over half of those people don't know five things about Bush. It is mob mentality.

I love out it when a mob chanting and holding slogans about Bush being a warmonger, violent, murderer etc turn around and burn down buildings, attack businesses and destroy private property.

    Seems so consistent...

i live in the northeast of brasil.. something im sure didnt make the news back in the states or even around the world:
there is a show here, the host is kinda like wally george, he talks no-nonsense crack down on criminals dont fall for socialist-commie crap, etc.. he did a good 15 minutes on condoleeza rice, calling her the most powerful woman on earth, pointed out how the us, with supposed "prejudices" against minorotes has a black woman in that position.. he always blasts lula for his friendships with chavez, morales, and castro..
