This is a good thing to protect children from horrible disease. The state has an obligation to its minor citizens to protect them if parents make bad decisions, such as Jehovah's Witness parents letting a child die for lack of a transfusion; or groups that let their kids die needlessly because they believe in a prayer-only approach to medical care. I support the action by both Governor Brown and Governor Perry.

It is also important to remember that this was a law duly passed by the people's representatives in the state legislature. It is how representative democracy works. Now if a judge were to overturn this, would those who decry "activist" judges legislating from the bench be equally outraged over yet another activist judge overruling the will of the people? I think we know the answer.

That is NOT how this representative democracy works! These people are trampling the constitution under their feet, and stealing the parents rights. This is horrific, sickening government intrusion. How DARE the government turn to such Nazi tactics!

What is wrong with you? Seriously? How on EARTH can you think it is a good idea for the government to tell parents what to do with their kids? Did you know that this particular vaccine has had HORRIBLE side effects in many people, including death? A child is not mature enough to make that decision; this is the decision of the parent.

And no, the polio vaccine was NOT mandatory, nor is any vaccine. There is always, and has always been an opt out for parents.

You need to get a life, and quit intruding in other peoples...

Yet the school can't give a child a Tylenol when they have a fever.

1 out of 20,000 people experience "serious" side effects from the vaccine, such as permanent disability, permanent mental impairment, or death. 1 out of 1800 experience some kind of side effect (fever, etc.)

    http://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/vaccines/hpv/gardasil.html

Out of those who actually contract HPV (that do not take the vaccine), in "90 percent of all cases" the body's natural immune system fights off the virus, and the subject is HPV free within two years (with NO adverse side effects/results). A total of 12,000 women get Cervical cancer per year(a very small percentage of total 20 million HPV carriers). That means even if you are not one of the ones whose body fights off the infection on its own, you STILL only have a 1 in 3000 chance of contracting cervical cancer.

Sorry, but the vaccine is a joke. Its just one more government intrusion on private citizens rights. The easy way to not get the virus, is not to have s#x.

This move is unAmerican. There is no immediate threat. In fact it is less a threat than the flu. The left is always working to undermine parents. And that is exactly what this is.

This is just one of many laws that the Government of the State of California has imposed on it's citizens robbing them of freedom. After all, the all knowing government knows what's best. Parents are just too dumb to determine what's best for their children.

This absolutely tramples parental rights. This is not some childhood illness for which a child needs a vaccination. It is an STD that one gets through intercourse or at birth. The government has pushed for little girls to get this virus before they become se*ually active, just the same way they've pushed for free birth control for teens.

What is wrong with birth control for teens? There will always be those who need to use it. Not everyone lives the ideal life.

As for the Gardasil shot, the discussion is around 12 year olds. For some, even THAT is too late.

These actions are made by the same government(s) that say it should 'up to the parents' to guide the religious upbringing of their own children? Thus, no Bible readings, prayers for safety before athletic contests or field trips, ....

By that logic, the answer to your kids getting into your gun cabinet, is to pass out bullet proof vests.

"Liberal" and "logic" just don't go together...

Ridiculous analogy. So if teens do give in to hormones just let them get pregnant or contract an STD? Guess you figure they deserve it. :BangHead:

No it is an equal and needful analogy. But it destroys the lefts argument so it is arrogantly dismissed.

Baloney. There is no urgent biological drive to get into a gun cabinet. But such differences are beyond the capability of being understood by those with a binary worldview.

There are all kinds of drives for kids to do all kinds of things. The biological is not the only one out there. regardless you do not capitulate to sin, you draw and keep them from it. No more than you capitulate to playing with guns. You keep them and draw them from it. The lefts argument is so silly it brings about suspicion that they just want kids to be able to have sex. There is no other good explanation for it. And I have a biblical world view. How about you?

Mandy, Mandy, Mandy...such absurdities it is hard to know where to start. Do you actually believe that teenaged sex will stop because you don't believe it is right? Nobody says they want kids to have sex as your over the top, absurd statement says. The fact is many kids always have, and always will, have sex. The libido is a powerful thing, and it is not surprising that many will go against what they are taught. That, my friend, is fact. Given that, I would rather kids at least have the protection against potentially deadly STDs and pregnancy than not. Is it ideal? Of course not. But pretending you can stop what has gone on since the beginning of humanity is unrealistic.

If your kids (if you have them) should succumb to temptation despite your best effort to instill your values, would you prefer them to have protection or to just risk the consequences.

What is absurd is the false notion that capitulating and giving in to such extremes brings more safety. Kids do not want to use this stuff any more than they want to not do it. Nobody is going to bring premarital sex to an end among kids or the unsafe practice of it. If you want to to be safe then teach them not to do it. There is nothing safer.
