Well, I suppose after all the ranting about Federal Pay being out of control by Rush and others this was inevitable.

But, as one of the muzzled and silenced Middle Class DOD Federal Civilian employees I have to ask what did we do?

The Strictly Enforced Hatch Act precluded our opening our mouths during the elections.

We didn't bail out wall street...

We didn't force banks to accept Mortgages that couldn't be paid. (That was started during the Clinton Years and Bush was too pC to stop it!)

Of course now that they've crashed the economy my house is no longer worth the Mortgage!

    I am Middle Class!

The vast majority of Government Workers who are not inside the Beltway are paid in the Middle Class Range NOT the exhorbitant figures Rush has been spouting.

And, BTW, when I worked for two major corporations my pay and benefits were in line with what I am making now...

So, why are Middle Class Federal Civilian Workers being punished for the malfeasence of overpaid political Czars and the inside the beltway crowd???

It's not like we had a voice or much to do with it...

Once again the Rich get richer and the Middle Class bears the true brunt.

The Socialist in Washington will not be happy until there are only two classes... "Them" and the very poor, helpless and hopeless.

When you tax us to suicide who will pay your benefits then?

This sort of reminds me of children when a certain rule is posed on one and they want to know about their sister or brother. The old why me instead of praise God I still have a job. Everybody wants the economy and the debt fixed, but no one wants to be part of the solution. My guess is that this is just the beginning and so for all those who want to complain that others are not suffering along with them just give it some time. While I personally believe that we have long passed the ability to fix our debt problem and we will officially become bankrupt losing our standing in the world, and become worst off then Mexico, if the government is going to try and fix this mess then all are going to have to suffer.

    In fact to just have ones wages frozen is nothing. Rest assure if this thing is going to be fixed many will lose their jobs so for those who complain about being first, hang on, the time will come when they can then gloat over those who lose everything if that makes them happy. For those who want to see how bad and how fast our debt is growing go here;
    http://www.usdebtclock.org/

We are currently 14 trillion dollars in debt. That is 1 million million or 1 million dollars a day, every day, for 2739 years. Our debt is growing at the rate of 40 billion dollars a day. That is 40 thousand million a day or 40 thousand 1 million dollar bills a day. Every check that the government writes has 25 to 35 percent borrowed money in it. As I said I believe we have went too far because of our own greed and will totally default in the near future becoming a third world country, but that will have to be seen and I pray that I am wrong.

I strongly urge every bother and sister to get out of debt, all debt. Pay only cash and this includes the churches. Sell your homes if it is financed and move into one you can pay cash for even if it is mobile home. Get rid of the new cars and drive one that is paid for. Get rid of all the toys and things that are not necessary. Put aside all you can now as many will lose their jobs and others will see large cut backs. I tell people that we need to learn the difference between wants and needs. Needs are those things that we absolutely have to have to survive and wants is anything else. Learn to walk instead of driving and putting on an extra shirt instead of turning up the heat. An example is that I have learned that I can survive on 30 cents a day for food. Desirable, no, but it can be done. Learn to survive! Be wise and not foolish as this is going to get way worse before it gets better. If it is possible to fix our problems then it is going to take some serious steps and sacrifices. Far greater then anyone wants or understands at this point. So hang on because we all are going to have to suffer through this if it is fixed or suffer in it if not and those who are first will be last and the last will be first. So no one will be left out and anyone feeling stepped on now can down the road just look at the guy next door and feel blessed.

I *AM* Thankful I have a job and can, currently, support both of my adult children...

I am, however, concerned that we are being scapgoated and no real progress will be made towards making this mess right.

It's one thing to sacrifice for Positive Change.

It's quite another to be scapgoated while the politicians continue their spending spree.

And, continue to garner favors from their PACs...

I did hear that as of last April Congress froze their own pay. Hadn't heard about that on any news channel all very quiet. (I suspect is was kept quiet so they could later reneg on it.)

But, I also want them to go after the Waste, Fraud and Abuse and actually recover as much of the "lost" money as possible.

Medicare/Medicaid has as much Waste Fraud and Abuse, As I Understand It, in a year that Freezing Civilian Employees pay will save in two years. Could be wrong. But, either way it's a vast amount.

As for the debt clock Federal Civilian Pay is a drop in the bucket. Literally.

And, so far, they haven't even started talking about measures that will result in real savings...

How about privatizing TSA and dumping Nepolitanos HSA?

How about using IRS agents to seek out Waste, Fraud and Abuse instead of abusing the America Taxpayer?

Want to tax the rich? Try a Flat Tax...

    Sorry, I am ranting.

But, I am concerned that as property taxes continue to go up, that apart from God's Hand, I may not be able to keep my house. It'd be one thing if I'd bought a house above my means. But, I didn't. I bought smaller than we needed planning for hard times. But, I never expected my property taxes to double in two years.

Or, inflation on Food and Gas (not included in the CPI anymore) to cause as much increase as I've seen.

It's just a mess... And, I'd much rather be able to help others than be put in a position where I may not even be able to help those of my own household.

Take a deep breath, step back, and pray!

    Oh, that's better! :)

Nothing really. It's not your fault. You're just a recipient of big government largesse and, compared to the private sector, are overpaid for what you do.

If you're a member of SEIU, you might consider dropping your membership in that particular criminal organization and put that money back in your pocket.

SMM - I thought I was the only person who thinks the purpose is to destroy the so-called "middle class" which, in fact, doesn't exist but are high end serfs.

I have, in the past, joked about being Federal Serfs, as in Old England.

Unfortunately, it's not such a joke any more...

And, not just for Federal Workers.

It seems the intent is to drag everyone down to the same level of impotence and poverty.

Perhaps union folk are starting to realize that when you tie yourself to a union your pay is limited and unrelated to how well you do your job or what the work is actually worth.

Just wondering, why is the thread entitled Bush proposes federal pay freeze. Iread about what Rush said and that Clinton and Bush agreed with forcing banks to accept mortgages... not sure that President Bush is the one proposing the freeze.

btw, my dad was a gov't worker in the Dept of transportation and in Washington, DC. He never made the kind of money loony Rush was talking about. :tonofbricks:
