    Not only exhorbitant pricing, but only certain coins (WITHOUT the image of Caeser) could be used. So we have "changers" who get their cut, and then "sellers" who take another.

    Rotten system.

    And it didn't stop there. To participate in temple ceremonies, worshippers must have gone through ceremonial cleansing rituals. Guess who bought up the closest property and built far more mikvehs (baptismal areas) than a family could reasonably use on its own?

    I've heard MacArthur say that Caiaphas was the leader behind such temple bazaars.

    I suggest that the issue was not the men who cheated folks in the exchange of money, nor was it the issue of selling sacrificial animals in the temple. The issue is seen in Jesus' words, "...MY FATHERS house...".
    I would submit for consideration that the issue was this;
    The Temple was for Worship of God and that the focus had been misplaced or "stolen" by the marketeers, hence, ..."a den of thieves."

    Just a few thoughts which are not often considered, IMO.
