Has anyone read "By His Grace and for His Glory: An Historical, Theological, and Practical Study of the Doctrines of Grace in Baptist Life" by Thomas J. Nettles?

I'm reading it now and enjoying it very much. A nice primer on Baptist History.

Ignore the frowning icon. Not intended. I'm smiling about this book. [IMG]

I wore out my copy, and have talked several times on the phone with Dr. Nettles. The book is great!

I have seen this book on the founders site and considered getting it. I see you all liked it quite a bit. So what is it that specifically shines in this book? I need motivation to add yet another doctrines of grace book to my shelf, but I am easily motivated! ;) I have enjoed Dr Nettles work quite a bit in the past as well as his Founders Journal articles.

    In Christ,
    Ron

Excellent documentation. The book is irrefutable. A reader may or may not be swayed toward the Doctrines of Grace by the book, but they will understand that historically, most baptists were also calvinistic in sotierology.

As a Reformed Baptist, I am overwhelmed to read of other Baptists who have fought the battle for truth. Some days I feel so alone . . then find there are many, many more who have not bowed the knee to baal.

I agree with Dr. Bob, I found the book refreshing mainly because of its documentation of Godly men who stood up for the doctrines of God's Grace. His (Dr. Nettles) presentation of these truths are excellent also.

    Bobby

I agree. It is always great when godly people are wiling to stand alone with God. In many ways I am more encouraged by the bolness of our president standing for his faith in Christ than I am for what I hear from the pulpits of some churches. I can rememember when he spoke at the Billy Graham Crusade about Billy Graham was responsible for giving his family the gospel.
