I don't know who to talk to about my problem. Maybe, I just need your prayers. I was never raised in church. At age 27 while visiting a Baptist Church, I was saved. Later that year, I heard Gods call. Great news, right? My parents are members of Church Of Christ.
I've tried to go with them but I felt they were attempting to brainwash me. Now I am 44 and I can't visit my parents without being pressured. I can't mention God, Christian or Saved around them without being told how wrong I am.
My father said "You need to hear our preacher. He used to be Baptist, until he started reading and found out the truth".
This pulls my spirit down so that I don't want to see my parents. I thought about asking them if they thought God sends crazy people to hell. If you don't, then your worries or over. Either God is speaking to your son or he is crazy.
(They don't believe God speaks to us today)

    Wayward,

I feel for you. Religion is a sticky subject with my folks, but for different reasons (they dropped out of church about 30 years ago, and don't go). But, thankfully, my calling has never been an issue with them.

I know a little about the Church of Christ, but not a lot. I can see how they are trying to tell you that you are wrong. Let them, but stick to your guns. Let them know that you love them, and that you will see them in heaven. You might want to mention that there will be a lot of people in heaven that are not CoC, and that there will be lots of music, too.

It is hard to not have your parents' support, and even harder when they condemn you for not being CoC. You have my prayers.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Hello... am I allowed to be in here? (female) - I work with a C.O.C. person.. they don't believe salvation is forever..and baptism will get you into heaven... I too was never raised in a church... My husband just recently got saved and instantly got a 'fire' in him... which I think we all experience (right?) anyway... he talked about going into the ministry right away... I might have discouraged him - by saying if God wants you in the ministry you don't need to go to school, as well as explaining having the 'fire' underneath you to do that as well.... now what?

Trotter - Thanks for the prayers my friend. Believe me, I've tried talking to my parents (Only makes them angry). But they believe it's all about the knowledge of the word.

luvnlife33 - Education can equip us with some valuable tools. Communication, Psychology and Writing skills as well as a better understanding of God's word. Seek Gods will for your lives. Gods purpose. I allowed many things to hender me for a number of years. Now, I am back on course. This board is a good place to get advice. You should press the button in the lower left corner[Start Topic] naming it with your concern. There are some Ministers with experience that might be more equipped than I.

    Wayward Son,

I have a mother much like you. Finally I wrote her a direct letter with biblical references about why I am not a Roman Catholic.

Since that point in time we have never had any problems. If the subject ever gets brought up I stick to the same questions and answers.

Since the Church of Christ has a rather short time of existence I would ask them about how those who preceded the Church of Christ are saved. If they believe that only those who are Church of Christ are the only people who are saved they won’t have much of an answer.

They are many variations in doctrine in the Church of Christ. Some sing and have instruments, others don’t.

Look up the history of the Church of Christ. Early in their history Alexander had a number of debates that have been recorded. I saw some when I was a student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

One question I like to ask them is, “Was the thief on the cross saved or not?” They believe that one must be baptized to be saved.
