You forgot about those "nattering nabobs of negativism". </font>
I don't use "nattering" or "nabob" on a regular basis.

I was referring to VP Agnew's famous characterization of antiwar demonstrators.

I know, I remember that speech--saw it on TV at the time.

I had some other words for them. None of the words are printable on this forum.

Sorry for the delay: I am back from a LONG business trip in the Midwest.

That is hardly surprising, considering the fact that he was an athiest. I am not sure if this is directed at me, but if it was, I never mentioned him.
Are you referring to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity?

Do what? (sorry, that is redneck for "ya gotta be kiddin' me!"). Inequality is on every page of the Bible. Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Solomon, even Philemon and Cornelius, were men of wealth, others were poor, some (Priscilla and Aquila) were middle class by our definition. Lydia was a rich merchant woman. I find no universal order for divesting wealth and equalizing all economically. In Jerusalem in Acts 2, the exigent circumstances of persecution led to that situation, which got worse, as Paul's concern about the offerings to the church in Jerusalem shows.

The US IS moderately socialist (Social Security, Medicare, Welfare, Unemployment insurance, Head Start, Free Lunches for kids in school, WIC, etc.), it is just less socialist than other nations. The question is, how far to go? The left wing in the US has a social agenda which is frightenly pagan. I fail to see how a Christian can associate with that bunch. </font>
So, exactly where is classism extolled in the Bible?

While on my trip, I picked up a copy of Let Freedom Ring. I am currently in Chapter Six.

It all boils down to this. My answer to the questoin "Can a Christian be left wing?" If you know the bible, absolutely not. If you don't know your scripture, then you are ignorant in that area and need to work on it. This is just my personal opinion. How can you know what God commands of us and completely stick your nose up at it, or decide to go with your own "reasoning". The Bible is the only truth. The Democratic Party and the "left-wings" are notorious for being all supportive of abortion and other issues that shouldn't even be a question. Better question- how can anyone possibly claim to be a Christian and vote for John Kerry?

What has Bush done against abortion lately?

What has Bush done against homosexual marriage lately?

What policies of Bush are more "Christian" than those of Kerry?

    1. Marx is the father of modern socialism. All modern socialism is directly traced to him.

    2. The education factor--whether we are talking Hannity, O'Reilly (MA Harvard), Monica Crowley, or the Bush administration--GW with an MBA and Condi with a PhD, the education level of the left's stars is not even in the league. Moore and the rest of the Hollywood lefties are mostly college dropouts.

    3. As for classism--the Bible is full of it. Every society depicted is far more stratified than ours, and the Bible never condemns classism, except to say that inside the church, it should not exist. The left is not about lowering class barriers--if it were, the left elite's kids would not be in private schools, as most of them are. The left is about imposing a radical social agenda and duping well-meaning working people into supporting their agenda. In academia, I have dealt with the hoity-toita elite, and they frankly make me sick to my stomach.

The union working man is their dupe, and the black voting block are willing slaves to the people whose policies have destroyed the black family, all the while patting them on the back every election cycle.

Abortion--he has consistently nominated conservative judges, several of which have been held up by the Democratic minority in the Senate (where the archaic rules require 60 votes to move on a nomination).

He has spoken out against homosexual marriage and in favor of a national marriage amendment.

Bush is against abortion, gay marriage, gays in the military, oppressive taxation, and he is for the free expression of religion in the public square, as we had from our inception until the Courts began to restrict our freedoms in 1947. Kerry holds the opposite views in every case.

Perhaps you misunderstood me, so I will ask you again: exactly where is classism extolled in the Bible?

Amazing: the yardstick to measure one's spirituality is the Believer's party affiliation.....

As for "left-wings" being "supportive of abortion:"
As I stated previously, I picked up a copy of Sean Hannity's book Let Freedom Ring. The title of Chapter Eight is: "I'm Pro-Choice."

This former "nattering nabob of negativism," (Agnew's words) seems to recall that Agnew resigned in disgrace after being charged with some serious monetary crimes. It was slightly hypocritical of him to call people names, wasn't it?

I don't think it's nice to call people names. I was happy when he had to resign. I was living in MD when Agnew had been governor and got to see him up close.

What is the main point that Mr. Hannity makes in Chapter Eight?

An equally better question, using your own criteria - how can anyone possibley claim to be a Christian and vote for George Bush?

Come join us in the "Politics" section if you wish to debate this. [IMG]

Well, you seem to be trying to imply that Sean Hannity is pro-abortion(else why put out the chapter title without having read it?). But he is not:

CITIZEN: Why is the left wrong on abortion?

    HANNITY: Abortion is just wrong.

Just finished the chapter, and indeed you are correct. He is not pro-choice.
He does, however, make an rather conclusive observation on page 170 (in the paperback edition):
I could not disagree with him more. That is a rather broad characterization of a very large body of people. That is tantamount to saying that all Republicans are anti-abortion, which is clearly not the case.

Notwithstanding this, I am curious as to how the non-left-leaning can place the blame for abortion squarely on those of us who are left leaning. As I recall, the House has been controlled since at least 1994, the Senate has been controlled on and off over the last few years (and is now), the Executive Office is currently controlled by the GOP, and the Supreme Court currently has more Republican-appointed Justices than not. Yet, Roe v. Wade has not been overturned.

    Oops.
Major, someone pointed out to me that Al was portrayed as someone who did not finish school. Actually, Al Franken graduated from Harvard.

Hope this post finds you doing well in the other Southern Commonwealth.

Excellent point! Also, per Article III, Section 2 of the central government constitution the Congress could remove abortion restrictions from the jurisdiction of the federal courts. Yet the Republicans have failed to use their control of the Congress and the presidency to do.

Methinks that many in the GOP merely want the abortion issue to use every two years to deceive Christian conservatives into voting for liberal Republicans such as George W. Bush, instead of actually using the tools at their disposal to restrict abortion on the federal level.

    </font>
The other thing to remember is that Republican Justices were instrumental in making the Roe vs. Wade decision. This was the make-up of that court.

    Roe vs. Wade Court

BLACKMUN, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which BURGER, C. J., and DOUGLAS, BRENNAN, STEWART, MARSHALL, and POWELL, JJ., joined. BURGER, C. J., post, p. 207, DOUGLAS, J., post, p. 209, and STEWART, J., post, p. 167, filed concurring opinions. WHITE, J., filed a dissenting opinion, in which REHNQUIST, J., joined, post, p. 221. REHNQUIST, J., filed a dissenting opinion, post, p. 171.

    Majority

BLACKMUN, J., delivered the opinion of the Court (R) Nixon

    BURGER, C. J.,(R) Nixon

    DOUGLAS, J., (D) Roosevelt

    BRENNAN (D) Eisenhower

    STEWART, J.,(R) Eisenhower

    MARSHALL (D) Johnson

    POWELL, JJ (D) Nixon

    Dissenting

    WHITE, J., (D) Kennedy

    REHNQUIST, J., (R) Nixon

If you need to identify who was really responsible for abortion in America I'd say it was Eisenhower and Nixon. Nixon appointed 3 justices who ruled for abortion and Eisenhower appointed 2.
