NOt to mention that preaching is only one small part of pastoring..
If he is unable to visit hospitals, or do home visits, or reaching out into the community the way he should, he should consider retirement...

Suppose his eyes are getting bad, and his reflexes are not good, so much so that it hinders him from driving, how would he effectively minister through visitation? You may say well, his wife can take him... or his deacon... true... but his wife may be in the same shape as he is.. and some people need to talk to the pastor alone.. not with a deacon.

Preaching is only one small part of Pastoring... (It is actually the fun part...that, and visiting newborns!)The care for the flock is the real job. And when I get to the point that I cannot physically do what the church has called me to do, I plan on retiring... not from preaching or witnessing... but moving along to allow someone else to be more effective.

Since the "if" cannot exist it is a non-issue.

Discipleship is something God has given to believers. No parent in their right mind would ever think of providing food for a baby and then telling the infant to take care of himself. Yet that is what so many preach, teach, and live out by their negligence of the individual. Then when the infant Christian stops coming to church the pastor too often declares a lie by declaring that the person does not act like a Christian. The fact is that that pastor is telling himself a lie in direct opposition to scripture and the responsibility God has given him to do and oversee. Yet blames the lack of maturity on the infant. That is much like blaming an infant for a parent's negligence.
