Would you join your local militia? I'm not referring to the National Guard or Army.... Is the bible silent on this?

    I did, its called SASS Single Action Shooting Society, any gun club that assembles is a militia. If you disagree try going to the SASS wire message board and voicing your disagreement, they will rip you to shreds

    I can quite imagine all those red-necks who don't know the Lord Jesus coming down hard. After all this is the only kingdom they belong to. Let me first say that I thank God that He placed me here in this country. I could have been born in any number of countries that pursecute Christians, but He knows best. But as a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven I find no need to defend a country that belongs to the god of this world. All the people who died in WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq, etc. without knowing Jesus died in vain, for nothing.

    Re 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

    Lu 9:60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

    Instead of joining the militia and the time it takes away from doing God's business. If God tells you to join the militia then make sure someone is told they need to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus.

    Dear Rooster,

    But what kind of militia is that whose members bring Winchester leverguns and Colt Peacemakers, and dress like Wyatt Earp and Annie Oakley? :D

    Why not look for one whose members use the latest in high-tech weaponry? You're an NRA member, right?

    (Ruger single-actions are stronger than Colt single-actions! ;) )

    I wouldn't but I have no problem with those that do as long the militia is not some kind of extremist group.

    The militia guys I've seen are mostly fairly extremist, but they are also laughable. As a military professional, my view is that a well-equipped platoon of the 101st or 82nd, not to mention Jarheads, could rip the guts out of 20 times their number of the militia guys I've seen.

    Even in the American Revolution, the militia had a very spotty record, as they were not equipped nor trained to fight with the bayonet, and they tended to fade away when things got really tough. There were some successes, but the best use of them was as a support for regular troops, as at the Battle of the Cowpens.

    It was the professional, seasoned, tough, and well-trained Continental Army under GW that finally out-lasted the British politicians. Even after Cornwallis surrendered, there were sufficient forces in the colonies to defeat us, but the British government caved because the war was costing more than they thought it was worth. Just like it was not the VC, but the professional, seasoned, tough, and well-trained NVA that finally outlasted our politicians in Vietnam.

    Read the book by George Orwell called "Animal Farm", The Militia might fight for a cause to overthrow a government, yet once power is gained, who do the leaders of the Militia become like?

    Sure a christian can join the local militia, or anything else for that matter, but why would he want to? There's prolly dues, rules, and a few other unsavories that I certainly wouldn't want to be part of...nor do I want to meet 'secretly' behind closed-doors, as do the KKK or the Masons. I LOVE being free & answerable only to God and my mister.

    I always thought the militia groups here in the US were either associated with white supremacists or with Chrisitan Identity, or were operating on conspiracy theories or are a combination thereof.

    Marcia not singleing you out , you just happen to articulate perfectly the ditch that the blind led by the blind fall into. Most militias are nothing more that people who like to get together and shoot, and excersize their 2nd admendment rights, the liberal media has given poor publicity to the truth, and make militia members out to be, people out to throw over the government, those people by definition are terrorist, not militia.

    </font>
Jethorw, calling people Red-necks the way you did is a racisit statement, how would you like it if I refered to Blacks as ***edited to strike slang word***, I wouldn't care to hear that racist word either, as their are many black members in sass, and reenactment buffulo soldiers. Thier are numerus oppertunities to soul win among the lost, some people call it evangelizing , of doing missionary work, or just having a ministry to reach the lost. in anycase why would you not allow sass members from hearing the gosple, in fact thier are many belivers among the sass , I am a member of the Bible Baptist Posse, and the prayer posse. Before you judge , get all the facts first.

    </font>
ROBERT, the latest of high tech weponry is fine for those that intend to use it to kill other people, I on the other hand am a simple target shooter, and enjoy reenactment of history, besides sass is not limited to shooting , I also like to compete as a Chuck wagon cook.

    I'm not a member of a shooting club--though I do not disapprove!---as long as that Militia group knows that they aren't "The Law" and cannot take the law into their own hands!

    I have a gun cabinet full of odd and end guns--every now and then I get them out and shoot but it isn't like I'm gonna pay any dues or joinin' up fee or anything---I just go out to the woods or the creekbank and shoot paper targets---mostly with .22's----they cost about a penny a shot---the others?? .30cal, 8mm Mauser and shotgun shells are too expensive to waste!

    I think GG hit the nail on the head. Scripture is silent on this direct issue. It's neither required for a Christian to join such an organization, nor is one forbidden from doing so. Would I? No. Not my thing. But whatever floats one's boat, ya know.
