I don't know if this is the place, but if I hear one more comment from the pupit about long hair, contemporary music, KJV, or the like I'm gonna go nuts.

    Subject hair:

Can anyone explain to me why so many think long hair is a sin for men?

Is long hair indicative of being effeminate? I think many feel it is. Also the scripture verse about men not covering their heads but a woman head should be covered. A lot looks at this verse having to do with hair length. And note many pastors became born again believers in the 1960's and 1970's when the anti culture was moving away from short hair styles of the 50's and before. They probably felt it was a form of rebellion to have long hair. Not to mention Rock and Roll performers using 4/4 timing and satanic african beats to their music consorting with demons had long hair.

Because Jesus didn't have long hair. Contemporary music has a jungle beat. If the KJV was good enough for Peter, Paul, and Jesus it should be good enough for us.

What you are hearing are man's traditions.

Yea, I know. And I know it's not bible. I love my church and denomination. I am in agreement on the official doctrine of the denomination. I feel God has put me where I am and untill he tells me to leave I am staying. It just gets so frustrating that the culture of the churches in our conference are so dogmatic about these things. If they want to beleive these things, then fine, consider them a personal conviction, but please stop preaching them from the pulpit. (Still venting)

I understand the frustration. They are majoring on very minor matters. I think in alot of ways it comes from a noble heart (or so I'd like to believe) in trying to make a stand for holiness and separation from the world.

And there is a biblical stand to take on men acting like men, and women acting like women. Where the line gets grey for me is what is manly and what is womanly. I think men should look like men and women should look like women.

Does a man look like a woman when he has long hair? Maybe depending on the man...

Does a woman look like a man when she wears pants? Not most I have seen.

I think you should go to Jesus with your frustrations and allow Him to comfort you in them. I think He would be more than willing to give you the strength to live with your weaker brethren.

Maybe its time for you to find a new ministry circle. If these are the kinds of things you are hearing with regularity than it certainly might be worthwhile to leave and find a new fit.

I don't know anybody who talks this way and is in a dynamic ministry. Just being honest. Usually this kind of language speaks volumes for the people speaking it.

    Who is holding you captive?

This is not intended to be mean.... but considering that some have weighter problems than this and in that light this seems so petty....... whinning:

If the truth is being preached, accept it and change or stay as you are.

If the truth is not being preached OR the truth is driving you nuts.... then leave.

From A Narrative of the Proceedings of the General Assembly of divers Pastors, Messengers, and Ministring-Brethren of the Baptized Churches, met together in London (1689):
Yes, these were the "weaker bethren" whose Confession several here say they "hold to".

Good advise and it is what I do very often. I just had to vent a bit. It does come from a noble heart. I know the pastors quite well and have had conversations whith them on the subjects at hand. Love them dearly!

Some think that long hair on men is wrong. Yet women can have short hair and no one seems to care.

Why is that? A double standard?

If a woman has short hair and dresses in slacks, it is sometimes hard to tell from a distance if it is a man or a woman.

I care. I think women should all have long hair. If they don't I accuse them of being Catholic or nuns. If I'm charitable I call them Lutherans. But not Baptist.

I feel that a church should not be teaching rules but how to understand the Scriptures and to be more like Christ. If one is following Christ, reading the Scriptures and living in a church family that is thriving in Christ, those "little things" will just happen. I don't need to teach my children not to kick the dog because they know that it is not good to hurt people. I don't need to teach them to not play with the matches in the kitchen drawer because I taught them a healthy fear of fire...and of me. So instead of going into such fine detail as to make one rule stand out, it is not teaching how to learn the rules in our heart.

I so hope that makes sense.

That is so decriptive of my thoughts. Get people saved, teach the scriptures, and let the Holy Spirit guide us. If God wants you to get a hair cut he is fully capable of telling you.

I can completely understand. I heard this for years in our former church and it drove me nuts. I could care less about the pastor's personal feelings; the church was there to worship and hear God's word, not his.

I love our pastor we have now. He understands that God's word should be the basis for everything we do, and makes sure that worship and God's word are the contents of our services.

I have never cared much about someones hair length, but to answer the OP, I always thought it came from these verses. Funny thing I have noticed over the years that I never seen quite he same attitude about older women who go short.

Yeah, but some kids aren't very bright and you HAVE to get really specific. Like "No, we do NOT crawl into oven! STOP THAT!" (I thought the Hebrew blood she got from me should have made that a no-brainer but she tried it anyhow)

I know what ya mean...but unfortunately a lot of those little things do have to be taught. Of course, we need to make sure they're REAL things, not stuff that we're teaching because for some reason it gives us a complex if we can't tell a male from a female from a long distance or because we really really don't like hip-hop music. And trust me, if I could take hip-hop and wipe it clean off the face of planet earth and have a scriptural basis, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

But think about it...we've got people claiming to be Christians and they're running around doing THE stupidest stuff. Maybe if the expectation started out smaller, the bigger stuff would be easier to handle?

I dunno. Something's going wrong somewhere...Christians can't look or act right. Shoot, half of them are standing around scratching their heads and wondering why it isn't Christian to be homosexual. Is it any wonder we have to teach people the little stuff too?
