I just saw that there's a documentary about the "truth" on TV in a few days. Scientists try to answer the question if the crucifixion and Jesus' conviction can be proven. I wonder to which conclusion they come...
I don't think I'll watch this. Such "documentaries" always upset me. But I wonder if there are scientific facts which can prove them. As far as I know there are no court files or something like this which talk about Jesus' case. Does this mean that the hearing before Pilate and the crucifixion cannot be proven?

Why not read someone's eyewitness account (outside of Scripture), who I believed didn't know Christ to be the Messiah?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephus_on_Jesus

There is something to be said if an eyewitness writes about Christ and he was not a follower.

I don't know what you mean about scientifically proven, but it is historically proven. There are many outside sources that speak of the crucifixion of Jesus. Josehpus is one them. There are many others including Roman writings. You can research this online.

scientifically proven implies repeatability. So no, actually no historical happening can be 'scientifically proven.'

However in court eyewitnesses (two or more) are generally considered to be sound evidence of something happening. We have eyewitnesses with Matthew and John in the Gospels, as well as the eyewitness accounts which Luke researched and recorded.

In addition, it is hard to imagine that the first generation of Christians, many of whom were also eyewitnesses, would have died horrid, tortured deaths for something imaginary.

IF science proves it, if the ark is found in the mountains somewhere, if Paul's tomb is located, if the remains of chariots, battle armor, people and horses, are found all over the bottom of the Red Sea, if Peter's fishing boat is found, what does that indicate?

    Think about it.

I don't need to know any of those things to KNOW that my Redeemer lives! Hallelujah! I have the peace that passes understanding, spiritually! To God be the Glory, GREAT and AWESOME and MIGHTY things HE has done! The GREATEST of all these is that once I was lost, now I am found!

    Amen.

    1. Would it matter to your faith if it couldn't?

    2. If the answer to question number one is yes, then do you really have faith?

For me, the answer to number one is no. I don't have to have scientific proof for anything in the Bible because it is a matter of faith which God has given me.

Bingo, Helen. And, If they wouldn't do it when he was alive before his crucifixion and resurrection, why would they do it for a dead man?

    Helen and Tom,

This argument, I think, is on shaky ground as one might point out that many have actually taken their own lives for a lie in modern times. Just think about Jim Jones and those who were waiting for a space ship to come get them after they poisoned themselves ( or was that a comet...I get those nuts mixed up all the time).

The Heaven's Gate cult, they also castrated themselves, waiting for the space ship to come get them when the Halle (sp) Bop comet passed several years back. Almost 2 dozen people commited suicide I think, it's sad.
