A man who survived cancer despite a grim diagnosis challenged House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on his efforts to repeal Obamacare.

“Because of the Affordable Care Act, I’m standing here today,” Jeff Jeans told Ryan at a CNN town hall event on Thursday. Jeans, who identified himself as a longtime Republican who had worked on campaigns for Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, used to oppose the law. But then, he said, that changed when he was given six weeks to live and needed health insurance to get treatment.

As a small business owner, Jeans explained, he doesn’t get health insurance through work like many people do.

“I rely on the Affordable Care Act to be able to purchase my own insurance,” he said. And with a pre-existing condition, he likely would have had a hard time buying coverage in the pre-Obamacare U.S.

“I want to thank President Obama from the bottom of my heart because I’d be dead if it weren’t for him,” he said.

So he didn't have insurance but when he got sick he signed up for it? No wonder costs are so high.

The above, and this guy's story makes NO sense. He is given six weeks to live for a "highly treatable form of cancer", offers to pay triple out of pocket but no, they won't take his money???

Every doctor I've ever heard of will take cash for treatment. Story doesn't check, "lifelong Republican", sure, bud.

Oh and when we changed our insurance and hubby's pulmonologist - who he had been seeing for over 20 years - wasn't on the new plan, the doctor agreed to accept "Medicare + 10%" - in other words, what Medicare will pay plus 10% of that as a cash payment. It was a great blessing!

Yes. With Obamadontcare logic, you buy the home insurance AFTER the fire. You buy the automobile insurance AFTER the wreck.

Oh, and women get their birth control pills for free since it is their Constitutional right and all.

    Srsly, I've been thru cancer.

You are not usually given 6 weeks to live with a very curable cancer. Most doctors will fight with you for a "very curable" one. I'm really not quite believing his story if it was "very curable".
