I don't know that I mean for this to be a debate....but I wanted to share!

Today we got to church and found that our building had no electricity....a line was down somewhere. Morning services were no problem, though it was a bit cold.

BUT, 6pm is very dark here now, and its getting pretty cold, too. Well, everybody showed up with kerosene lamps, candles of all sizes, flashlights, and lanterns. Most of us brought small blankets, too. We brought a small generator so we could run the PA system. We meet in a big ole gym, so Preacher had to yell to be heard in the AM service.

Well, we had so many candles and things, that Preacher said that for tonight we should be called the "Bed, Bath and Bodyworks Baptist Church." [IMG]

We sang some old-time choruses, because most of us couldn't read the hymnals. We had a grrreat time!

His message tonight just "happened" to be on "Let your light so shine before men." I especially liked what he said about us needing to shine BEFORE men, not UPON men. Its not our job to point out other people's sins, but rather to let the gospel shine on us so that other people could see Jesus through us.
And about how we also need to be a good testimony towards those other church members...lifting them up, treating them right, etc.

It was a great time, and with no electricity, the lights shining here and there made a big impact with his message.

    I was blessed, and convicted.

    Praise God!

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him...."

thanks for sharing! It would have been special to be there.

I bet that is one message you will never forget.

That's wonderful. Think on it this way, God added his own visual effects to His message.

bapmom...terrific! So many congregations would have said forget it and stayed home for the evening service.

I know! I was even tempted to say that myself....but it was such a wonderful thing to go and see how full the auditorium was! I think hardly anyone stayed home because of the electrical problems.

It was just like an old-fashioned camp meetin'.
