What more really needs to be said? And, once we have preached that MTV is trash to all of our lost friends who do not have spiritual minds and don't really care, and told them to repent, then what?

Uhh. I hate to say it but that is not very likely to happen. Sure maybe Jesus could, but we aren't Jesus. We aren't anything near Jesus.

I believe this whole scare tactics evangalism is a bad thing. It will work on a kid, but adults aren't so easily frightened. I have friends who have been assaulted by these 'preachers' and got a totally negative view of Christianity because of it. Yelling at people from a street corner is dumb. Don't do it. It causes a lot more harm than anything else.
Live a good life, be a good example, love others, share the good news when the time is right.

If anyone disagrees, let me know. I feel like a good discussion.

What do you consider "scare tactics"?

How where they assaulted? verbaly, or physically? Do you consider 'if you don't repent of your sin, you will die and go to hell' verbal assault?
How does it cause harm? Would it be a 1 Cor.1:18 deal?
The Bible tells us in "Isaiah 58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet,..." it tells in the gospels, to go into all the world and preach the gospel.
Why sugar coat it? why not tell it like it is?
Not that all that is wrong, it's all a part of it.

Sure but I think there is a time to be cautious and be tactful we cant always just yell at them or talk quietly. God made everyone differant. Some might get turned off at street preaching others might be good to do it. I think the thing to remeber in personal evangelism is everyone is differant. Jesus did not always talk to everyone the same way.

I disagree with everyone that says we should always preach you are dying and going to hell all the time. When Jesus witnessed to the Samaritan Women he said nothing of hell. He said if she drank from the water He offered she would not thirst again. Not exactly scare tactics was it? That said we need to preach hell don't get me wrong but we don't always have to approach people like that.

Preach from the HEART to the HEART from the the HEAD to the HEAD or from the HEAD to the HEAD!! It does nothing! Preach what the Holy Spirit tells you to and then HE WILL WORK!!!!

Gospel preaching is not always what is to be preached,... after all there is the REST of the Bible.

The subject title for your sermon is not really gonna be "The Evils of MTV" why not preach on a broad topic and use your sub points as MTV, sex, drugs, beer, or whatever!

Preach the BIBLE w/ the Holy Spirit's Calling

Even Jesus being perfect example and God did not win others by example alone. He discipled his disciples and gave the gospel to many.

Just to give you a little of what I do with the people I disciple: I take them through the first six book of the Design For Discipleship series by Nav Press. That takes 29 weeks. Then I take them down the road of studying the background behind each book of the Bible. That takes about one year. They spend about 4 to five hours each week answering the questions in the workbook plus reading the book of the Bible. At the end of one year they will have read the Bible and answered the questions in tow workbooks totaling about 450 pages. Then I take them through a 13 week course I have developed on interpreting scripture. During that time they are to prepare a word study that they will present to the rest of the group at the end. I will give them words like messenger, baptism, etc. They are to trace their word from the OT, through the intertestamental period and on past the NT. Then they are to come up with a definition of the word. They are to pick any passage where the word is used and to correctly interpret that word in its context. From that passage they are to draw at least one application tied to the context of the passage.

During this same time I teach them about the elements of a NT letter and a Hellenistic letter of the time. I teach them about how the Bible came in to being and how the canon was formed. During that time they are taught a little about textual criticism. I bring a Mishnah and explain how it came into being. Each week I meet with them for two hours. They are to come prepared with their homework done. The two hours is to discuss and answer questions. The average person will spend from five hours to eight hours per week in preparation and discussion plus read their Bible. During that same time some will start Bible studies on their own.
