Certainly the leadership of Iran is not stupid enough to "capture a nice bunch of blue-eyed blond-haired officers and feed them to our fighting cocks" as this article claims. These type of comments smack of racism and a misunderstanding of America's military ability.

This is part of the reason the current situation in Iraq is so bad. It causes America to look weak. If Iran thought for one minute that America would respond to such an act of war with "extreme" measures it's government would not even think about making the kind of statements seen above. Iran's government believes that America is weak, why? Because instead of going into Iraq, taking care of business, and pulling out, this administration has allowed our military to be caught in the quick sand that is Iraq. Bush should be ashamed of what he is done to our military and it's image. Our military should be a source of fear, and mystery, to the whole world. Yet, thanks to Bush, it is viewed as weak and ineffective.

Well said Martin, we have thrown away so many oppurtunities in winning the hearts and minds of mid-eastern countries due to poor leadership. Peace or a reasonable facsimile of peace will not be achieved under the current leadership but despite this our troops have accomplished so many other victories in Iraq.

==I agree, our troops are not the problem. I support our troops 110%. I know that our military is the best in the world by far. That is why what is going on in Iraq makes me so angry. The policies this administration is asking the military to perform in Iraq are the problem.

Bravo Martin, it is a matter of leadership, a backbone, common sense, and a sense of what is best for America, all missing at the present time.

Good post indeed Martin! Another problem with the situation that few are willing to speak of is that the Iranians see our leaders as subservient to the Israeli lobby. That makes us look even weaker to them imho.

We should aways support israel. they can spin that however they want to. It is based on their hatred for Jews. it is an antisemite ideology we should not abandon Israel because of prejudice.

I'm quite certain that they do harbor hatred for the Jews. But that doesn't mean they are wrong about our leaders being subservient to the Israeli lobby and others, anybody with open eyes can see that they are, and no one suggested we abandon Israel.

The American Turkish Council is no slouch either when it comes to skewing our foreign policy look at who the members of ATC are, the who's who of the military industrial complex. Then there's the Saudi Arabians close friends of the Bushes. Don't you think the Iranians can see how easily our leaders can be bought and sold by foreign powers? Do you think that helps to make us look strong in their eyes?
