Exactly as many of us predicted here's one consequence of Obama's stupid executive order resulting for his complete lack of understanding of the matter or his lust for political power at the cost of all principles or both:

Charges Dropped Against USS Cole Bombing Suspect

What a disgrace this action is to America and the warriors who fight to defend it against our enemies!

The guy is still in custody, and charges can be reinstated. This isn't a free pass. It is giving time to evaluate what is going on at Guantanamo.

Yes, some of that's true, but he should have already been tried and, if found guilty, executed. This move just gives him another ten years or more to live while a bunch of civilian lawyers milk the system for their fees. The part about Gitmo is not true. What's going on at Gitmo was an attempt at justice against terrorism. What's going on in the White House is foolishness to confound that justice. Meanwhile even the bones this terrorist's victims are passing away.

Charges dropped in USS Cole terror trial

This goes to prove that the president is more concerned with politics than he is about our American Sailors that were murdered.

    This is an outrage!

The families have been waiting for eight years for justice, how long do you think is long enough for a mother who lost her son?

As I said in another post, this is an outrage and shows that this president cares more for terrorist than he does our own sailors!

I agree. Why weren't all these people tried during the BUSH administration? Why did this guy sit in prison for 9 years without being charged and without a trial?

Are you aware that the FBI has said publicly that they have never had enough evidence to charge bin Laden with ANYTHING RELATED to 9/11? That's why his FBI Most Wanted poster doesn't include any crime that was 9/11 related.

Nothing, just the usual JC ploy to bash Bush.

Perhaps it had something to do with the endless objections to every step of the process that diminished our ability to impart justice on these terrorists on behalf of our nation and especially those directly harmed by them.

He WAS charged. And 9 years would put him in the Clinton administration. But I'm sure you knew that.

Yes, the USS Cole happened under Clinton's watch, but he knew that already.

Actually he was captured in 2002 and wasn't actually charged until December 2008.

Actually, he was sentenced to death in a Yemeni court in September '04, for his role in the Cole bombing.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was talking only about what the US has done with him. BTW, he was sentenced to death in absentia (he wasn't present at the trial) in a Yemeni court.

I am sure that my shipmates are proud that they died giving you the freedom to side with the terrorist over the sailors!

Who on this thread has sided with the terrorist? I don't see any comments of that nature.

Why is this acceptable to you?

It is my understanding that you believe that holding these suspects without a speedy trial was undermining our standing in the world community.

Shouldn't this decision just outrage you?

Shouldn't this particular suspect either be tried immediately or released so that he that he will cease to be a campaign tool for terrorist recruitment?

    Why the inconsistency?

Then you obviously must be of the opinion that he should be immediately released.

    Yes? If not, why not.

Good point! Clinton's response to the USS Cole attack was essentially to dispatch civilian law enforcement to take over the investigation as if it were just another criminal act. Obama's current actions follow in like kind by desiring to close Gitmo and move the suspected terrorists into the civil justice system. Neither can discern the difference between criminal acts and terrorist acts - acts of war - and so that wish to apply civil law to the laws of war. Hence the desire to give the detainees all the rights of citizens and to put them into the civilian court system. This has been an on-going struggle and the efforts to attain justice for the victims and the nations have been confounded by the White House, the Congress, and the Court in various ways. We had a system that could work but we just couldn't seem to use it. Our enemies laugh at us and play our own foolishness against us. The families of those killed cry out for justice - a duty of government - that they're less and less likely to have as time passes. It's a disgrace!

The real question is "How many Terrorists have actually been convicted of a crime?"
Why is this happening. Then we find out that we don't even have enough evidence to charge bin Laden with ANYTHING RELATED TO 9/11.
I think the whole country was deceived by the Bush Neo-Cons.
