A author and me have been chatting via email and he is writing a book on the WOF movement. This man speaks at seminars, has some published DVD's and so forth. In a email he said Charles Stanley preaches Mysticism as Stanley says God speaks to him outside of scripture. I am not sure where he got that as I have several Stanley books and hear him on Podcast almost everyday. Perhaps it was something he said in his monthly in Touch Journal that is mailed out and that I have never read.

In His book on the Holy Spirit he says the following on page 207.

Then in the following paragraph he goes on and criticizes those whom claim to have been led by the Spirit without the power of the Bible.

Then on 210 he says the following.

Then on page 217 he condemns those that hold to Mysticism and approach the Bible like that.

So I am not sure where this author has gotten his sources. Can anyone clarify?

Not sure about the source you're quoting, but Mike Abendroth did a whole show about Stanley. Stanley always rubbed me the wrong way, even when I was a Finneyist.

In the Charles Stanley episode, Abendroth examines Stanley's teachings from Stanley's own sources. I wouldn't call Stanley a heretic, but I would say that he's venturing into some questionable territory.

That episode is still available in the No Compromise archives if you're interested.

I am gathering quotes from his book The Wonderful Spirit Filled Life and not secondary sources. If you have direct quotes in books or Podcasts please send them my way. But I cant accept hearsay. I am open to evidences and not rumors or agendas. I am just trying to be fair.. It may be possible I misread parts of this book.

I'm not sure how reading from somebody's book and citing the page number is "rumor" or "hearsay".

Abendroth doesn't set out to do a hit piece on Stanley. He just reads portions of Stanley's books and discusses the doctrinal consequences of the statements therein.

You sounded as if you were sincere and so I gave you a good source to go to. Your choice whether you want to use it or not.

Concerning pastors, Paul told Timothy, " them that sin, rebuke before all".

Obviously from a Calvinist view point anyone who preaches freewill is a mystic.

There is no sin. The author of the op scours sources to see what dirt he can manufacture. Stanley is not perfect but he is not into mysticism. He needs to grow up.

No one has shown Charles Stanley's sin. Since you have suggested he has it's up to you to prove it. Or is this just another false accusation?

Drama is alive and well in the "theological world" just like any other sphere.
Some are simply not happy unless they are able to create or initiate some kind of controversy. I suspect the written revelation addresses such.

I suspect it is because Stanley is not a calvinist.

I was not suggesting that Stanley has sinned. I was just pointing out that pastors who sin are to be rebuked before all.

But to be honest, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that there is no perfect pastor on this Earth. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves.

I can only hope that the "real reason" is not so childish.

I have listened to Charles Stanley messages on TV and radio and he does come across with statements about how the Lord spoke to him about which direction to take in certain crises he has had.

Then I have no idea why it was brought up. By the way the scripture that says it should be brought before all is a reference to the local church, not gossip on Baptist Board.

Evangelist, where your friend may have gotten his information on Charles Stanley may have been from this article in Christianity Today.

What? My giving a link to where the idea of mysticism may have originated?

I was not posting the link to condemn Stanley. I only googled and found the interview because an allegation was made.

I neither said, nor implied that Stanley was a mystic.

No, the article itself. I was not speaking about you. Sorry for the miscommunication
