Cheney unhurt in blast at U.S. Afghan base

An Afghan official said the explosion occurred inside a shipping container, but gave no more details, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press.

A Reuters correspondent travelling with the US delegation said they were not aware of the blast until they heard sirens and were told by a military spokesman that the base was "under attack".

"We were told there was a 'red alert'," Caren Bohan said. "There was a commotion, but it ended pretty quickly. We didn't hear any bomb or anything like that from where we were."

However, a purported Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, said Cheney was the target of the attack. ``We knew that Dick Cheney would be staying inside the base,'' Ahmadi told The Associated Press by telephone. ``The attacker was trying to reach Cheney.''

104 you are a disappointment you shame the Psalms.

Cheney has hurt our nation and has been delusional but for the office of the Vice President you will get a bi-partisan concern...our elected officials should be kept safe and we have means of removing bad performers from office so they can enjoy their retirement with family and friends but no longer doing harm to this great nation.

An American soldier was killed today 104 protecting the VP have a little intelligence and respect and actually add to the story and never claim to know how I feel or don't feel...I stand on my post ...<deleted - LE>.

"At least one U.S. soldier, an American contractor and a South Korean soldier were among the dead, NATO said."

I did my drive-by of the Huffington Post, and there sure were some folks very disappointed. Granted, they've been taken down.

I think people often say things that they don't really mean out of frustration and in order to infuriate the other side.

I don't like Cheney at all, in fact, I put him at the bottom of my list of people in this Bush administration to despise; however, I don't actually want him dead. I would hope that right-wingers would feel the same way about people such as John Murtha or John Kerry.

I'm sure if it was Hillary, there would be exactly that, Terry. It's horrible whenever it's done.

Dick Cheney seems to be one of the only sane voices left in this world. It shows just how far the liberals and their politico-legal-media complex has taken this country.
    Dick Cheney for president!

Maybe the United States Secret Service would be interested in knowing their IP addresses?

His presence was very hush hush. The explosion was far from where Cheney was. It appears that the explosion was just another attack and it happened to coincide with cheney's visit. What are the odds?

This is just another lie from the terrorists.

Taliban terrorists getting close enough to our air base in Afghanistan to set off a bomb that kills 25 people, with the vice-president inside, is a sign that the Bush administration is losing the war on terror.

No its not. But if it were it would be a result of all the verbal aid and comfort coming out of the United States.

First of all, this picture is bigger than the allowed limit.

Secondly, no pictures of Satan are allowed!

Seriously though, Bush needs to be careful where he sends the Veep. That is his insurance against impeachment! The devil we would have is worse than the devil we have.

A war against a tactic(terrorism) cannot be won. The Bush administration should have focused on destroying al Qaeda and its Taliban allies instead of allowing them to regroup.
