    Hey folks,

Since Mozier brought up Chick tracts, and I got to read Chick' latest, I do have a couple of questions, actually a lot of questions, but lets just start with:

    i) what is Chick's point in showing the similarity of Mary's name with "Semiramis"

ii) Chick shows horror that Catholics worship the baby Jesus, what is wrong with worshiping "baby Jesus"

I haven't had the pleasure of reading anything to do with Chick. I was curious about the first part of your question so did a quick search on google and came up with...

"The very features and complexion of the Roman madonna Mary are none other than those of Semiramis, the madonna of Babylon.100 The famed pictures of the virgin Mary were obviously copied from the very same prototype as all other pagan divinities portraying the Babylonian Queen Semiramis."

***Oops read that wrong...you just wanted to know what his point was. Sorry :D

    Hi Raymond,

I also took a quick look at the cartoon on the chick website but I didn't stay long. I think we should pray for the soul of this person, he has alot of pent up hatred inside him.

I know there are many images of Mary, for example: Our lady of Fatima, Guadalupe, Lordes, etc.

As far as worshiping the baby Jesus I see no problem in that, he was God then too.

    Good Bless You

    Yours in Christ
    Daniel

We are not the only (or original religion) that has a Son of God, born of a virgin. We are not the only religion that speaks of a holy spirit. We are not the only religion that has a concept such as the trinity. We are not the only religion with a God who both god and man. Religions with these elements predate Christianity.

These do not make void our religion. Rather, they show that all religions created by people with sincere desires to "find" God, are going to achieve some semblance of the truth, which is why there are common elements in most all major religions. Because other religions have a "madonna with child" does not make our reverance for Mary and the child Jesus a falsehood. For you (or Mr. Chick) to insinuate that it does, simply shows a general lack of knowledge of the continuity of the religions of the world.

Christianity is not "right" because it has a bunch of exclusive elements. It is simply "right" because it is true.

    God bless,

    Grant

    Hi Spirit Seeker,

Chick is Jack Chick website which has cartoons on it which are very slanderous to the Catholic faith.

As a Knight of Columbus, I am to be a Catholic Gentleman and defend the faith in a compassionate way. Sometimes I feel my zeal rise up inside me and end up erasing most of my message and starting over because it is not the way Jesus would want me to act.

    God Bless You,

    Yours in Christ
    Daniel

This publication has the freedom to publish what it chooses. Catholic can be offended if they so choose to be. Truth hurts!

How objective. Mind showing me, objectively, how this tract contains the absolute truth?

What I am saying is that the Roman Catholic Church has had a bad history of persecution just exactly as Chick publications have shown. Read Foxes Book of Martyrs. No one can be excused for these atrocities. Nor can what is happening today be excused. Nor what has happened for centuries with indulgences etc.

Chick publications are not the only group who stands against Catholicism.

    Hrhema,

Do me a favor. Examine the Chick tracts closely when the talk about the Catholic Church. You'll see little asteriks (*) which denote the source they get their information.

100% of the time, it is from another book published by Jack Chick's company. Credible people are able to source externally and objectively. Why should I trust Jack Chick when his higher authority for his information...is himself?

    Right. I don't.

    God bless,

    Grant

Grant you are very wrong. He has publications which state that he has taken information from the Book "The Two Babylons" by Alexander Hislop.
Also he has used another book called "Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth."

So please do not make comments unless you totally have read everything Jack Chick has written.

These two publications are just a couple Mr. Chick has used.

An interesting point has been raised here but have not noticed any real explanations.

Why does the RC Church seem to make much of the "baby Jesus"? It seems that their Jesus is either dead on a cross, or a helpless babe in a manger or in Mary's arms.

Ralph Woodrow’s book The Babylon Connection? discredits Alexander Hislop’s book. He proves Hislop’s sources were fraudulent. Ralph Woodrow had written the book Babylon Mystery Religion (a more readable version of The Two Babylons ) and based much of his work on Hislop’s book. He assumed Hislop to be accurate. When it was shown numerous times that his sources were false, he did his own research and had to agree. That is when he wrote the book the Babylon Connection? Interesting read even even for a Catholic.

The Catholic Historian and best-selling author "Thomas Bokenkotter" writes from the Catholic perspective and shows clearly that paganism was incorporated into the Catholic church around the time of Constantine.

It is undeniable - no matter how many insults are hurled at one Jack Chick.

    Bob,

let's just admit that anyone who agrees with your position is "right," and everyone that disagrees with you is "wrong." If another, just as respected, Catholic historian disagrees with your position, he is wrong.

This type of picking-and-choosing is blatent in your posts.

    God bless,

    Grant
