I've read through several in which multiple gross claims/inaccuracies were made. This guy is either a terrible researcher, or he thinks its OK to lie as long as you're on the right "team." Based on his track record, it's probably the latter. (actually, probably both)

It's never OK to lie to make a good point. So I won't use 'em.

I found an article on a Catholic website where they said he lied about Alberto Rivera, a Jesuit preist converted to Christianity. Of course they are going to refute him!

Another site said he lied in the dinosaur tract, but this person claiming Chick lied also believes the earth to be millions of years old, so I can't really take his view either.

I would like to see concrete evidence of the alleged lies before branding Chick as a liar.

I would be surprised to see outright lies in his writing...

At worst, from my research, Jack Chick seems to just be on the extreme end of Fundamentalism.

I know of one person from my church who claims to have gotten saved out of Roman Catholicism after reading through a shoe box full of Chick tracts. To me, the tone of a Chick tract would seem to be a turn off to Catholics, but that must not always be the case.

Amen, Rbell -- Preach it.

You have to weed out the inaccurate culls.
Like the songs in most Hymn Books - you have to check
them with against your Doctrine (Teachings)

It isn't so much Chick's tracks has his comic books.
His comic books about the derivation of the Bible are chock
full of dubious 'facts' - stuff that never happened, you know.

    THE ATTACK at

    http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0031/0031_01.asp

is chock full of errors, wrong stuff, and misinformation.
Anybody who gets their doctrine from a comic book is
going to have problems. A bad NIV BIble is a better source
of doctrine than the best Comic Book.

Uh, we really can't talk about that track without getting
this thread put in the Versions/Translations Forum.
PLease - this Forum is for non-Baptists. The Versions/Translation
Forum is for Baptists. Please PTB let us talk about Versions
(and chick misinformation about Versions). Thank you

That's what I had in mind...his KJVO is idol worship (like our now banned Sanderson). Many of his tracts are good, though. "This was your life" is one of my all time favorites.

Since this is the tract thread.. and not specifcally dealing with the KJVo issues, let us get back to the tracts in general, unless there is one specific on the Bible versions (there may be.)

    My favorite Chick track is:

    WHY NO REVIVAL?

    (Chick Tracts, 1986)

    Inside the front cover says:

Yep, I've given nearly everybody in my church
a copy, 2 or 3 times (if they were here then).

Here is an on-line copy of it:

    http://www.ilovetotellthestory.org/revival.html

after checking it, it is different from the one I remember.
I guess I have a new copy and the link has the old
copy. Let me see if I can find my paper copy from
    long ago???

The old one has a panel that shows a guy saying: God won't let
anything happen to me. ... " It is followed by another panel that
quotes Reve 3:16-17. That has been changed to one panel
    in the revision.

The following panel has been added to replace the one freed
    up by the action above:

    ---------------------------------

    While the Christians played church,
    American went Catholic.

    * Immigration is deliberately out of
control, as Catholics pour through our
    Southern borders
    *Fundamentalists are now considered
    the lunatic fringe
*The deadly Genocide Act became law

Drawing shows a Christian being burn
at the stake by a Priest with a cross.

    We Lost the war,
    beloved ... its
    only a question
    of time before
    we see an inqui-
    sition in the
    United States

Only a God sent revival can turn it around.

    ---------------------------------

    Sorry I mentioned it.
    The racist & anti-catholic words
    have ruined the tract.
He should have made a Spanish translation
    of the old trac :(

I want to change my vote :(

Growing up my mom always put Chick Tracks on the the fruit or vegetable pies she baked. I didn't know they were so controversial.

And his KJV stance seems almost cultish. I know many who prefer the KJV, but to call it "the perfectly preserved words of God"???

I do not like Jack Chick tracts.

As far his inaccuracies, I only have time for one.....but I have found a few. In his tract, "There Go The Dinosaurs", he says about Eve in the Garden of Eden that "Eve wanted to try it (forbidden fruit) and the devil knew her weakness."

    That's not true.

She had no weakness of character....no sin nature. Neither did Adam. They were innocent and able to be in God's presence. The bible says that it was after the devil had tempted her that she took note of it and saw that it was good for food.
    .............................................................................................................................
    .............................................................................................................................

In his tract, "Free at Last" which is targeted at black people, he speaks about the bondage of sin. There's nothing wrong with that. We should talk about the bondage of sin.

But he draws several black people, a young man listening to rap music, a tall basketball player, etc......he draws them with NOOSES around their necks and a demonic being pulling the other end of the ropes.

NOOSES!!!! Surely he could have come with another visual analogy for the bondage of sin in writing a tract targeted at black people! :BangHead:

And the tract is very, VERY frightening. The visual images of the demon are over-the-top and the images of the parents of the young child being thrown into hell are scary and it doesn't say why they are thrown into hell. I can imagine a black child, who by-the-way is the main character of the tract being frightened by the tract.
    ..............................................................................................................................
    ..............................................................................................................................

Lastly, in his tract, "This Was Your Life", I personally found much despair. I was 11 years old when I read it and had been saved for two years. Needless to say my spirituality was in a stage of infancy. The original which is more sensational than his revised one caused depression in my life.

As an immature 11 year old who saw the image of a man lusting over a woman and the man having all of the sins shown on a movie screen in heaven before all of humanity and the tract implying that this is what happens when you die.......well, I thought that all of my sins were going to be shown on a huge movie screen in heaven. Or at least they would all be announced and everyone would know what I had done in my life.

What could an 11-year-old have possibly done to become spiritually depressed?

I was molested as a younger child and was convinced that it was my fault. I saw the man in the tract lusting over a woman and telling dirty jokes and it reminded me of the man who had harmed me. I wanted so badly for that "secret" to remain a secret, but I was convinced that everyone in heaven would someday see it all on the "big screen". I was depressed for a long time as a child and felt very spiritually unworthy. I just knew that I would have to stand away from everyone in heaven in a small corner while everyone else celebrated.

To this day, as a 46-year-old woman who is now confident, courageous, and pretty dog-gone happy with life......I still get a twinge of fear from time to time that God is horribly disappointed in me and is going to meet me in heaven with a look of anger on his face and not with open arms.

And I think about that Chick tract quite often. With trembling.......

Hummmm, I found a Why No Revival? dated 1970.
It is different from both the two mentioned above.
My daughter born in Oct 1969 colored on it with
    her crayons.

Yep, this whole poll gotta go to the Versions/Translations
    Forum :(

In the 1970 version, missing from the 1986 version
    is:

    ------------------------------------------------------

An Afro-American says "I've been born again
sanctified-redeemed Baptised and am a child
    of the King -- WHITEY!

The White guy says: "I've been saved and
washed in the Blood of the Lamb -- and my name is
in the book of Life -- BOY!

    Sigh ...

Chick refers to non-KJV versions as "Satan's bibles" in more than one publication.

I'll see if I can find it...I don't exactly have a Chick library.

In "the Death Cookie," Chick claims that the letters "IHS" on the Communion wafer stand for "Isis, Horus, and Seb...the gods of Egypt."

Umm....I'm not defending Catholics on everything, but why lie?

It stands for "Jesus, Son, Savior." There's no way Chick didn't know that.
